Activities at Marnel Lodge Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.
Sarah Yarney
I have worked with the elderly for more than forty years in various roles, gaining varied knowledge and experience. I have been a relative at Marnel Lodge for ten years and worked as an admin assistant for a year and a half. I have now taken on the exciting role of Activities Coordinator at Marnel Lodge and I am looking forward to working with the residents, families and the Marnel team to start some new activities and adventures.

Oktoberfest
Our residents and team truly enjoyed Oktoberfest in style. This year, Oktoberfest took place in the cinema, where we shared with our residents original footage from this event recorded last year in Germany. It was great fun and, of course, fantastic food.
110th Birthday Celebrations
Our lovely resident, Alice, celebrated her 110th birthday recently. All teams managed to surprise Alice with a great party (official guidance applied).
Our team sent 110 balloons with personal messages up in the sky to share such a great news. The Mayor of Basingstoke sent a special video message to Alice, as well as ITV Meridian, have wished Alice many happy returns.
It was very special day!
National Fish and Chip Day
Whether you’re a Cod or Haddock, a garden Pea or Mushy Pea fan, National Fish and Chip Day, celebrated on 4th September, is the perfect day for you. And it was certainly a day of fun filled Fish and Chips activities for the team and tesidents at Marnel Lodge.
To mark the celebration of the nation’s favourite Fish and Chips, residents tucked into a variety of their favourites. There was much fun to be had taking part in our Fish and Chips lunch. Residents also got the chance to enjoy their Fish and Chips in traditional boxes to make the event more exciting, also Marek Manteufel, our Activities Coordinator dressed as a shark and went round the home making the residents laugh, which is always lovely to hear.
Sushi Day
Residents and the team enjoyed a day filled with great food and traditional Japanese music. There was lots of dancing and fun.
World Food Day
Residents and staff enjoyed some world food tasting. Delicious curry, Caribbean, Chinese, Polish, Japanese and many more cuisines have been very popular and so appreciated by all. With great food comes a great glass of bubbly. It was a great day with lots of fun!
83rd Birthday Celebrations
Our resident, Rita, has celebrated her 83rd birthday in style. Close family visited Rita and grandchildren were waiting in front of the home as a surprise. Rita felt truly special!
