Activities at Meadow Park Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Dementia Cafe

Our first Dementia Cafe was a hit today, with our residents living in our Memory Lane community.

Residents and staff sat with each other and enjoyed looking through old memorabilia, reminiscing about old times and having a good old natter.

Our Dementia Cafe is a great opportunity to come together, not just for our friends and families, but those living in the community, to discuss any worries or concerns regarding those living with Dementia, or simply using the time to just step back and enjoy some respite away from the hussle and bussle of day to day life, with a cup of tea and piece of cake.

The Tyne & Wear Derby

Residents have sat in anticipation watching The Tyne & Wear Derby…. Derby meaning a football match between local rival teams.

Residents predicted the scores, with a split in sides, our lovely David guessed the 3-0 win to the Toon

What a tense afternoon we have had, the alcoholic beverages and snacks steadied our nerves.

Residents cheered and cheered with their team winning 3-0 on the final whistle.

Up the Mags

Big Quiz of the Year

All over the country our care homes and hospitals linked up for Barchester’s Big Quiz of the year!

Residents tested their knowledge with a variety of questions, from historical humdingers and musical musings to pictorial puzzlers and connective conundrums.

Everyone who participated had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.

Christmas Day

A wholesome day, to say the least, staff have gone above and beyond to give all of our amazing residents a magical Christmas.

Our day kicked off with a BucksFizz breakfast, followed by crowds of relatives visiting their loved ones.

Our lovely (little bit crazy) elf Dennis, delivered person centred gifts to all of our residents, which staff have picked out specifically to meet residents hobbies and favourite past times, or there general favourite things.

Then Mandy cooked up a ‘cracker’ of a Christmas Lunch, Roast Turkey with all the trimmings, followed by Christmas pudding or Lemon Meringue Tart.

Residents retired to the lounges with Tea and Coffee, Mince Pies and nibbles, with Christmas music surrounded by their families.

A truly lovely day has been had by all, Staff and Residents alike.

Festive pub Visit

Today our lovely lads left the housework to the lasses and nipped for a cheeky refreshing pint at The Cherry Tree in nearby Stakeford.

Resident Rex used to live close by to The Cherry Tree, and it being his local was thrilled to go back and enjoy a pint with his friends.

Residents reminisced about the good old days, and how much a pint was back then, with David remembering the days when a pint was less that a pound!

Our cheeky chaps have loved getting out and about, Bill said ’you cannit wack a nice cold pint at the pub.

Christmas Party

Residents have had a wonderful afternoon at Nether ton Club for another Christmas Party, organised by a local events coordinator.

Drinks were flowing, we had beers, lime and soda and Betty even had a vodka.

Residents have loved getting out in the community again, bumping into lots of old friends, and having lovely catch ups and sharing precious memories.

Mark McCann and The Hudson sisters entertained us, we were lucky enough to have a winning raffle ticket (again) and all our lovely residents danced the afternoon away.
