Activities at Meadowbeck Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Tina Holmes

Lead Activities Co-ordinator

Hi, I’m Tina, and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Meadowbeck.

I began working at the home as a Care Assistant in 1999. In 2014, I changed my role to Social Support Worker, which I enjoyed, as it involved supporting residents at Meadowbeck in their daily lifestyles.

I then became the Activities Coordinator in May 2017. I love working with our residents and getting to know them and their families. In addition to supporting them maintain an active lifestyle I always ensure to personally get to know each resident when they move in with us to support them in the continuation of any hobbies or interests the might have.

Life at Meadowbeck Care Home

Christmas Fayre

Staff, residents, relatives and the local community came together to enjoy a wonderful Christmas Fayre.

There were all kinds of stalls on offer manned by volunteers, friends and family and lots of local stall holders came along to sell their wares too.  The stalls included delicious homemade cake stall, jewellery, beautiful knitwear, handmade crafts from little gems artistry as well as scented soaps, bath bombs and candles from fantasy scents.

The team would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who either manned a stall, donated a raffle prize or who came along to support the home.  There was a fantastic atmosphere and in total the home raised over £250 which is brilliant.

Festive baking afternoon

The smell of freshly baked homemade mince pies filled the air at Meadowbeck as residents from around the home gathered together for a little festive baking afternoon.

Everyone were busy either rolling out and filling the pastry or cutting out stars to use for the top. It was a wonderful afternoon with lots of stories shared of all the homemade baking they would do for their families the run up to Christmas.

They did a marvellous job and they looked and tasted delicious enjoyed with a well-earned cup of tea afterwards.

Jumper Joy!

All residents and staff at Meadowbeck have been encouraged to buy, borrow or decorate their own special Christmas jumpers and donate to Save the Children. We had all kinds of knitwear from stars, baubles, sparkles, snowflakes and favourite characters,

Annaliza Kemp, General Manager, said: “Today has been a whole lot of fun with some of the most outlandish Christmas jumpers I have ever seen! This event has really showcased the creativity and fun-loving spirit of all our residents and staff. We are proud to take part in Christmas Jumper Day and show our support for Save the Children.”

Rainbows and Brownies visit

Our residents enjoyed a night of smiles with a visit from our local Rainbows and Brownies, the children entertained us for the evening as they performed a special Christmas Nativity.

We had lots of singing of traditional carols with a recorder recital which were played beautifully and everyone in fine voice.

At the end of the performance it was lovely when residents had the opportunity to chat with the children as they shared what Christmas means to them, bringing back happy memories to all.

What Christmas means to you

With the excitement of Christmas cheer just around the corner our residents would like to share with you special memories and what Christmas means to them.

We had a lovely time as they shared stories of decorating the home, spending family time singing carols around the tree and the sound of children’s joy and laughter running down the stairs to find what Santa had brought them.

The pie is the limit

Meadowbecks’s residents and staff have been busy individually wrapping hundreds of mince pies to gift to the local community to say thanks to for all their support during 2023.  Staff have delivered batches of freshly baked mince pies to York Hospital, charities, churches, GP surgeries and the local police station.

General Manager, Annaliza said: “Christmas is a time for giving and we wanted to thank so many wonderful members of our community who give their time to support us.  It is so important to give back – we hope our gifts bring lots of joy to everyone who samples them.”
