Activities at Meadowbeck Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Hi, I’m Tina, and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Meadowbeck.
I began working at the home as a Care Assistant in 1999. In 2014, I changed my role to Social Support Worker, which I enjoyed, as it involved supporting residents at Meadowbeck in their daily lifestyles.
I then became the Activities Coordinator in May 2017. I love working with our residents and getting to know them and their families. In addition to supporting them maintain an active lifestyle I always ensure to personally get to know each resident when they move in with us to support them in the continuation of any hobbies or interests the might have.

Life at Meadowbeck Care Home
Cook Off 2024
Staff and residents are celebrating because their wonderful Managing Director, Fiona Fagan, from Barchester’s North East and Scotland Division, has stepped completely out of her comfort zone to compete in the Barchester Charitable Foundation Cook Off 2024.
Fiona went head-to-head with the Managing Directors from Barchester’s four other divisions and cooked up a storm to raise a phenomenal £24,595 for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation which helps connect vulnerable people and those living with a disability to community groups in their local area by providing grants to improve mobility and quality of life. Each year the Foundation distributes thousands of pounds to individuals, small community groups and charities across England, Scotland and Wales.
Home present cheque to local charity
Meadowbeck presented York Neighbours with a cheque for £1,000 to help towards the cost of outings and day trips for the charity to continue working to help tackle loneliness and isolation of older people.
The grant had been awarded by Barchester’s Charitable Foundation, a charity that helps older people and adults with a disability or mental health problems across England, Scotland and Wales by offering grants to help people connect or re-connect with others in their local community.
Inside the Eden Project
Residents across our homes had a fantastic time exploring the Eden Project virtually - an educational charity and visitor attraction based in Cornwall, featuring sprawling outdoor gardens and breathtaking biomes that house the largest indoor rainforest in the world.
During the session, residents who joined were reconnected with nature through their senses, memories and stories. A big thank you to the community team at the Eden Project for the wonderful event.
Musical Moments
Residents had lots of fun in our latest Musical Moments session with Maggie who introduced us to Jodie, a new musician who has joined the Musical Moments team.
We had a fantastic afternoon with lots of movement to music and singing using sensory props as we were forever blowing bubbles and singing in the rain.
Once again a well turned out group with a few new faces joining in the fun!
A day at the races
Here at Meadowbeck we had our very own “Ladies Day”. The ladies enjoyed wearing their fancy hats and fascinators to look the part whilst we soaked up the sunshine with some delicious cakes, strawberry’s and a glass of bubbly or two.
Great afternoon had by all.
Cupcake Day!
We celebrated “Alzheimers Cupcake Day” we got out our best china tea set and sampled a selection of delicious cupcakes with lots of tea and coffee.
Les was here to entertain us as he played for us all the favourite old time pub classics that our residents were only too happy to sing along to.
We had a wonderful afternoon.
