Activities at Meadowbeck Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Tina Holmes

Lead Activities Co-ordinator

Hi, I’m Tina, and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Meadowbeck.

I began working at the home as a Care Assistant in 1999. In 2014, I changed my role to Social Support Worker, which I enjoyed, as it involved supporting residents at Meadowbeck in their daily lifestyles.

I then became the Activities Coordinator in May 2017. I love working with our residents and getting to know them and their families. In addition to supporting them maintain an active lifestyle I always ensure to personally get to know each resident when they move in with us to support them in the continuation of any hobbies or interests the might have.

Life at Meadowbeck Care Home

Easter Treats For Our NHS Heroes

Staff at the Meadowbeck Care Home in Osbaldwick, York have visited our much cherished and valued NHS heroes with a collection of Easter treats on behalf of our residents as way of thanking them for their hard work and dedication to the local community.

Our colleagues were privileged to be able to meet and thank the paramedics, nurses, other emergency services workers working within the hospital and the wider community who don’t always have time to go home or back to their workplace on their break.

Cheese and Wine

We were delighted to warmly welcome our residents, relatives and members of the local community into our home for our latest 'Cheese and Wine' event.

Our audience enjoyed a delicious selection of cheeses prepared by our brilliant catering team and some fine wines to sip and enjoy whilst listening to relaxing music and striking up conversations about their favourite types of the dairy treat.

Mothers Day

Residents at Barchester Healthcare’s Meadowbeck care home, in York, celebrated Mother’s Day with visits and video calls from family members near and far. The home was beautifully decorated with fresh flowers and bunting for the occasion.

Staff at Meadowbeck hosted an Afternoon Tea with live entertainment from Les Hodgson, who played all-time sing along classics for everyone to sing along to.  Our Kitchen team, Paddy and Denise prepared a selection of delicious savoury and sweet treats including themed cupcakes and homemade scones accompanied with tea, coffee and a glass of prosecco.

General Manager, Annaliza Kemp said: “We’ve all had a really lovely day.  It has been so good to see family members who were able to visit in person and to have video calls with those who are further away.  Our residents enjoyed a fantastic lunch and then a delicious afternoon tea prepared by our brilliant chefs. Days like these are so special.”

London Ladies

As part of our International Women’s Day celebrations, Residents from across our services were thrilled to join tour guide, Mandy Morrow, for an exciting talk about some Legendary London Ladies.

Mandy shared the fascinating stories of eight ladies with us, from the one of the richest heiresses in the world to the original 'Roaring Girl'.

Everyone who participated truly enjoyed the experience and were delighted to take a walk down memory lane.

Bingo Bonanza

Across the country our homes and hospitals came together to find out which care home or hospital had the best Bingo players as they teamed up for Barchester’s Bingo Bonanza.

Residents were treated to some exciting virtual games of Bingo as part of Barchester’ very own game show series.

Everyone who participated had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.

Flower Arranging Masterclass

Our lovely residents and colleagues came together this afternoon for a lovely flower arranging master class courtesy of Tina our Home Activities Coordinator.

Our residents thoroughly enjoyed discussing the different smells, colours and names of flowers. We discussed the beautiful gardens that surround us, and what flowers we see as the seasons change.
