Activities at Melbourn Springs Care Home

Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is a major focus of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat will always be welcomed.

Jubilee Celebrations

Today was our day to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth! The short shower and windy weather put our residents off going outside so we set up the games inside. We opened the bottles of chilled Prosecco, Bucks Fizz and Phil, our Chef mixed up some delicious Pimms.

We sang and waved our flags toasting the Queen, played games inside and when it brightened up some residents moved outside. We chose the name of our Royal Game and it is now named 'Beanie for a Queenie'! Thank you for the other names that were suggested!

We finished our day with our inside street party where we enjoyed delicious finger food, very chocolatey Rocky Road and mouth-watering desserts including the Platinum Jubilee Trifle. Yum! Phil excelled himself again!

We hope you enjoy looking at our photos from today and that you have been celebrating the amazing 70 year reign of our Queen.

Happy Birthday Melbourn Springs!

Melbourn Springs has certainly been in the party spirit after hosting a delightful Garden Party to celebrate the home’s 2nd birthday.

We certainly have had a lot to celebrate of late as well as being awarded the accredited 5 stars food hygiene rating, the upcoming Queen’s Jubilee and not to mention the fact that the home has been open for 2 years!

General Manager Maria Anghelide said, “I really cannot believe the home has been open for 2 years! Our original home opening was completely side-lined due to the Pandemic and this is the first time we have really been able to celebrate – it sure has been a long time coming and really has been long overdue to actually be able to come together to celebrate!”

Residents, their families and friends from the local community were treated to a delightful Afternoon Tea expertly prepared by Head Chef Phil Bennett and his team complete with Pimms, Fizz, Sandwiches, Live entertainment and Birthday Cake of course!

Deputy Manager Dan Amis added, “What an amazing day we have been able to share together! The sun was shining, the home gardens look stunning and everyone was just so happy to be able to come together properly to celebrate such a special occasion. We have had such lovely feedback from our residents and the families too and have many fond memories already of a truly splendid day after all we have been through together!”

Jubilee Celebrations at Royston Fire Station

Today four of our lucky ladies had a lovely trip to Royston Fire Station to share their Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

They were really excited about going as our previous visit had been so successful, the ladies are still talking about it. Well, mainly Lorenzo!

We donated some home made cakes to prove to Rob that we can!

The Station House was buzzing with people and everyone was so friendly! We enjoyed tea and cakes. The ladies asked to have a picture with the High Sheriff as they loved her outfit.

We didn't pluck up the courage to ask if we could try her hat on, but Babs was really tempted!

Thank you to Royston Firefighters for inviting us once again.

Jen said, 'My first trip on the minibus and what a wonderful time I've had!'

Happy Birthday Donald

This week saw us celebrate the birthday of Donald! Not only did he enjoy cards, chocolates, cake and other gifts but he also received a very special framed photo of one of his favourite places in the country, possibly the world! Do you recognise it? It is somewhere definitely close to Donald's heart and he talks about it often with affection.

Happy Birthday Donald! We're glad you're here with us at Melbourn Springs, making friends and sharing stories!

P.S We didn't make Donald mix his own birthday cake!

International Firefighters Day

This International Firefighters Day saw some of the residents at Melbourn Springs venture out on our home Mini Bus to meet the crew at Royston Fire Station.

There were delicious cakes, lovely mugs of tea and so, so many laughs! The ladies were very grateful to spend time with Rob, Lorenzo, Darren and the worker of the group - Rachel!

Thank you so much for your hospitality Royston Fire Station - we look forward to continuing this friendship and welcoming you at Melbourn Springs very soon!

“What a wonderful afternoon I've had!" was Joy's comment as she returned to Melbourn Springs. "I'm so pleased to have met such lovely people!”
