Activities at Middletown Grange Care Home
We aim to provide a variety of activities that will both mentally and physically stimulate the people we support. Residents have a range of different needs and interests, and it is crucial that these are reflected in the activities available, so that each individual is able to participate to the best of their ability. We organise both group and individual social events that everyone is welcome to take part in; there is a weekly outing to local places of interest, including the garden centre and the local farms, parks and museums. In addition, we enjoy regular visits from entertainers and even exotic animals. We also host events such as 'Beach Day' that relatives and friends are encouraged to participate in. Getting involved in charities is a big part of our ethos, so events such as 'PJs for Pudsey' and pirate-themed days are regularly hosted to raise money for different foundations, including the Alzheimer’s Society.

International Nurses' Day
Coinciding with the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, International Nurses Day, held on Thursday 12th May, is a day to celebrate nurses and care staff around the world. Residents and staff were happy to get involved by giving praise to the nurse team here at Middletown; Jane, Jevita and Jemimah.
In 2022, the International Council of Nurses is seeking to focus on the need to protect, support and invest in the nursing profession to strengthen health systems around the world. International Nurses’ Day is a day to give thanks for the dedication of care givers everywhere, who go above and beyond the call of duty to deliver extraordinary care and support.
Clemence Heriman, General Manager at the home, said: “We are very proud of our nurses and staff for their hard-work, dedication and passion about caring for others, the teams compassion and commitment has shone through even more over the past two years. They continue to work tirelessly, and I’m proud of the professionalism and duty of care they uphold. All their efforts are focused on delivering the best possible care for our residents, so it’s nice to take this time to show our appreciation in return.”
Tickled Pink 'Wonderful West End'
Today we were all entertained by the wonderful high energy Tickled Pink Productions who transported our residents back to the 'Wonderful West End'.
With short-story shows from Rogers & Hammerstein, Cole Porter and Gershwin. We were captivated from the start, and enjoyed a good sing-along to songs from South Pacific, The Sound of Music, and Kiss Me Kate.
Our residents and staff had tremendous fun, and were amazed at the performers quick costume changes and enthusiasm to entertain us all. Thank you so much for a super day Tickled Pink Productions
Happy 100th Birthday 'Queen Frances'
Celebrations have been in full swing at Middletown Grange as the first of our two lady residents reached her centenary in style!
Frances Paintin was joined by staff and her fellow residents as she received a telegram from the Queen in recognition of her landmark birthday along with over 100 birthday cards from the local community, and people from all over the UK thanks to our Facebook campaign to make Frances’ day extra special.
A champagne reception was held at the home and guests enjoyed a special birthday cake made and decorated by the home’s second chef Jadwiga Phipps. Frances' room was filled with cards, gifts and balloons as she wore her very own ‘Birthday Queen’ sash and crown.
The birthday girl, said: I couldn’t believe the amount of cards I received, beautiful handmade ones from school children, and cards from people I don’t know, I feel so loved… It’s been fun turning 100 I might do it again!
Clemence Heriman, General Manager of Barchester Middletown Grange added: “We’re delighted to be celebrating a truly remarkable woman as she reaches this amazing milestone. Frances is such a popular resident, we have always treated her like a queen and today she shone as bright as a diamond! We look forward to continue being her loyal subjects as she breaks into her next century.”
We’d like to thank everyone who reacted so positively to our Facebook campaign, we’ve been inundated with fabulous cards for Frances and her fellow centenarian; Pauline who turns 100 on the 25th April. We are blessed to have these two amazing women living, and thriving within our home.
The mountain of cards we have, and continue to receive for each lady has warmed our hearts. We will be sure to read each and every one to the lady’s.
