Activities at Middletown Grange Care Home

We aim to provide a variety of activities that will both mentally and physically stimulate the people we support. Residents have a range of different needs and interests, and it is crucial that these are reflected in the activities available, so that each individual is able to participate to the best of their ability. We organise both group and individual social events that everyone is welcome to take part in; there is a weekly outing to local places of interest, including the garden centre and the local farms, parks and museums. In addition, we enjoy regular visits from entertainers and even exotic animals. We also host events such as 'Beach Day' that relatives and friends are encouraged to participate in. Getting involved in charities is a big part of our ethos, so events such as 'PJs for Pudsey' and pirate-themed days are regularly hosted to raise money for different foundations, including the Alzheimer’s Society.

Whole-Home Vaccinations Begin

Our staff and residents were delighted to receive their first dose vaccine as part of a whole-home approach to vaccination today; 7th January 2021.

We'd like to send a big thank you to Dr Gareth Evans, Dr Anna Morrish and registrar Dr Ben Barker from The Nuffield Practice, Nuffield Health Centre, Witney who kindly set up their mobile clinic within our home to provide all residents and staff with the best protection against COVID-19, which has filled the home with New Year joy and lifted everyone’s spirits after what has been a very challenging year for everyone.

General Manager, Claire Gascoigne said: “Last year was a year like no other and the vaccine feels like the light at the end of the tunnel.  Our teams have been magnificent in how they have risen to every challenge during this pandemic and we are proud to play our part in this next phase to ensure the most vulnerable are protected.”

Resident Beryl Friend was one of the first to receive the vaccine said “I really don’t like needles, but the staff were so nice, and I didn’t feel a thing. I’m so pleased to have this protection, just like having my flu jab really”.

Flower Power

Flower arranging is a very popular activity here at Middletown Grange. Residents have a lovely selection of fresh flowers to choose from. They then create beautiful arrangements, which then get placed in our communal areas for everybody to enjoy.

The Magic Table

At Middletown Grange, we recognize the importance for residents to maintain sensory stimulation and social interactions, which helps to promote their well-being. In our Memory Lane community, we are very fortunate to have a Tovertafel Magic Table installed.

The table projects animated and interactive images, which can be used to provide activity sessions for the residents. This has proved to be a great asset, as it provides physical and sensory stimulation for residents living with dementia.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

Staff and residents held a charity coffee morning on the 25th September to help raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

We welcomed all of our staff and residents to enjoy a wide variety of different cakes and treats. Throughout the day, we also sold boxes of freshly made cupcakes to the local community.

We advertised our cupcakes prior to the event so that people could order them and then pick them up from our gate on the day.

Our coffee morning was a huge success, raising just over £80. Thank you to everybody who supported us with this!

Cool Sweet Treats

We called upon the local ice cream van to make a stop at Middletown Grange. During the lovely weather, an ice cream from the ice cream van was a great treat! Some of us enjoyed our ‘99’ with a flake out in the garden, whilst others had theirs delivered to them by staff.

Summer Fête

Residents and staff enjoyed attending our Summer Fête. We played lots of games, including giant Jenga, Quoits, Tin Can Alley.

We enjoyed sampling many cakes, as there were so many choices, whilst quenching our first with some Prosecco! Lots of raffle prizes were donated, which enabled us to allow every resident to win a prize which was fantastic!

We set up different time slots for our residents to attend the fete so that we could adhere to social distancing measures.
