Activities at Milford House Care Home

The Activities Team at Milford House are dedicated to providing a range of stimulating activities for both groups and individuals, that promote both physical and mental wellbeing based upon resident's interests both past and present. As a member of the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) the team are always striving to incorporate best practice into the array of activities on offer and to enhance their own skills through qualification with NAPA to NVQ Level 3 in Activities Provision. The team combine weekly activity favourites such as sherry mornings with special events, musical entertainments, slide shows, outings in our own mini-bus as well as interacting with local community groups such as Plain Arts Salisbury to showcase resident art and creativity and others who come into the home to interact with our residents. Milford House also benefits from a strong network of volunteers who support the Activity Team as they deliver their programme and who, along with friends and relatives, are always welcome to come and join in our sessions and outings.

Gale Louw

Activity Coordinator

Gale joined the Milford team in 2019, initially as a carer but has gradually transferred over to the Activities Team where she is now the full time Coordinator. Gale has a passion to create a comprehensive and inclusive programme of vibrant events for residents, family
members and friends to enjoy and, along with the rest of team, ensure that each resident is able to participate in meaningful activities tailored to their likes and dislikes.

Originally from South Africa, when not at work Gale loves nothing more than exploring the UK, catching up with family and friends, being creative across a variety of disciplines and keeping her eyes out for great activities and events she can bring back to the home for
residents to enjoy.

Life at Milford House Care Home

Summer Party

Summer Party

Residents, staff, families and visitors had a fabulous afternoon in the wonderful gardens of Milford during our summer party. It was warm and sunny day, and the rose garden was looking at its best as everyone sat around enjoying a scrumptious cream team while Dolly and the Dactyles performed live on the outdoor stage (with some accompaniment from Sister Aurora). There were art activities for the younger visitors, provided by Creative Minds, a plant stall, raffle and tombola – so something for everyone!

Creative Minds

Creative Minds

Residents at Milford House enjoyed a fabulous interactive art workshop with the ladies from Creative Minds. The project for the day was creating an individual work of art with the theme of spring trees, and the range of work produced was both varied and wonderful, and is currently gracing the walls of our conservatory. The workshop, which lasted for an hour and a half, was a great hit, and we look forward to more of them over the coming months.

Flags Fly for St George

Flags Fly for St George

Residents, family members and staff, with the help of Sophie and her accordion, all joined together for a rousing afternoon to celebrate St George’s Day. Songs were sung, flags were waved and tea and cakes were enjoyed, creating a wonderful festive afternoon.

Milford Drops for Charity

Four members of staff from Milford House—Penka Apostolova, Bill Smith, Xia Xiaoying and Clare Nash—abseiled down the Avon Gorge in aid of the Wiltshire Air Ambulance. Those of us with a less adventurous nature were happy to cheer them on from the sidelines and support them in their fundraising.

To date, they have raised over £500 and counting for this worthwhile cause that relies entirely on public funds to keep flying and saving lives.

April Open Day

April Open Day

Milford House was delighted to welcome visitors into the home. General Manager, Marie-Therese Tiernan, and Hospitality Services Manager, Scarlet Leatham, along with other staff, were on hand to show visitors round and answer any queries regarding the care, services and facilities available at Milford House.

It was a lovely sunny day and visitors were able to enjoy our beautiful gardens whilst drinking tea and touring the home.

Hearts All the Way

Milford House celebrated Valentine’s Day with a ‘love and marriage’ theme and a wonderful afternoon tea, with entertainment by Chico.

The dining room was a sea of hearts on which were written residents' thoughts on the theme of the day, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed reading all of the comments, some of which produced lively discussions!
