Activities at Milford House Care Home
The Activities Team at Milford House are dedicated to providing a range of stimulating activities for both groups and individuals, that promote both physical and mental wellbeing based upon resident's interests both past and present. As a member of the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) the team are always striving to incorporate best practice into the array of activities on offer and to enhance their own skills through qualification with NAPA to NVQ Level 3 in Activities Provision. The team combine weekly activity favourites such as sherry mornings with special events, musical entertainments, slide shows, outings in our own mini-bus as well as interacting with local community groups such as Plain Arts Salisbury to showcase resident art and creativity and others who come into the home to interact with our residents. Milford House also benefits from a strong network of volunteers who support the Activity Team as they deliver their programme and who, along with friends and relatives, are always welcome to come and join in our sessions and outings.
Gale Louw
Gale joined the Milford team in 2019, initially as a carer but has gradually transferred over to the Activities Team where she is now the full time Coordinator. Gale has a passion to create a comprehensive and inclusive programme of vibrant events for residents, family
members and friends to enjoy and, along with the rest of team, ensure that each resident is able to participate in meaningful activities tailored to their likes and dislikes.
Originally from South Africa, when not at work Gale loves nothing more than exploring the UK, catching up with family and friends, being creative across a variety of disciplines and keeping her eyes out for great activities and events she can bring back to the home for
residents to enjoy.

Life at Milford House Care Home
Vintage is all the Vogue at Milford
Milford hosted a vintage fashion show which was a great hit with everyone as the fashions took us all down memory lane. With our very own Gale and Sister Jo strutting the red carpet, the event was compared by Diane Hampstead who is very active in the Salisbury vintage scene. Gale and Jo, who are also enthusiastic collectors of vintage outfits, modelled their own outfits and Jo even wore a dress that belonged to her mother - truly fab-u-lous!
Di's expert commentary highlighted aspects of design, use of colour, patterns and covered the gamut of influences from Mary Quant, Paisley, Pierre Cardin, Mondrian, Twiggy and more. Every outfit was enthusiastically cheered and each was somebody's favourite, but the block colour boots worn by Jo were right up there. Our thanks to the team for putting on a great afternoon - the red carpet will be out again soon!
Mother’s Day Gift Will Keep Growing
Milford House was busy for Mother’s Day with visitors and a special lunch. Our dining rooms looked lovely and spring-like which chimed with the gift that was given to each resident of a pot of mini daffodils to grow and enjoy. These had been a while in the planning as our gardener, Caroline planted them several months ago and has been tending carefully ready to give to everyone. All 70 pots were brought in and wrapped and given to residents on Mother’s Day. They are now growing away and we are all watching their progress as they grow and bud up and continue to give pleasure and brighten up every corner of the home.
Celebrating Birthdays
We always celebrate birthdays here at Milford on the day with a cake and individual celebration, but we thought it would be fun to hold a bigger birthday party e monthly for everyone who has a birthday in that period. So we held our 'February' party this week with our guests of honour the stars of the show. The conservatory was absolutely packed (we think we will need to move to a bigger venue for March!) as we started off the afternoon with games before settling ourselves down at the tea tables to share the most delicious cake (thank you to chef Becky) and tea. Our birthday girls were each given a small gift to take away, there were balloons, a thank you speech and fun - it was just a great afternoon and we can't wait to celebrate those March birthdays.
Milford Celebrates Valentine's Day
Residents enjoyed a celebratory Valentine's lunch which saw the dining rooms awash with red, both in terms of the decor and in the residents choice of dress for the day as everyone got into the party spirit. We had Paul serenading us on the piano throughout lunch (and presented him with a token of our appreciation for his lovely playing for this and many of our other events,), our chefs prepared a delicious meal which had a heart-shaped pudding course (of course!), and even our yummy cake in the cafe followed the theme set alongside the lovely flower arrangement our residents had created earlier in the week. With everyone around the home joining together it made for a very special day as the smiles and laughter show.
Mr Kelloggs is a Hit With Residents!
Thank you so much to Linking Hearts therapy horses for bringing the wonderful Mr Kelloggs to Milford where everyone who met him simply fell in love. Mr Kelloggs who is 9 years old and stands at 29 inches high is the sweetest, gentlest character who has been visiting and bringing smiles and joy wherever he goes since he was 6 months old. With his bootees on and his forelock plaited he quietly went around the home and visited wherever residents were waiting to see him. As can be seen from the photos it was a really special afternoon. Thank you to 'team Kelloggs' - we will see you again soon.
Residents are Entertained by Landlocked Navy Larks!
Residents and staff at Milford House Care Home in Salisbury were treated to a fabulous afternoon of song from 'The Navy Larks' who, despite their name, are based in landlocked Salisbury and who treated residents to a variety of old and new shanties and songs of the sea. Sung with spirit and gusto the group had residents joining in with familiar favourites such as 'What shall we do with the drunken sailor?' and more! We are keeping our fingers well and truly crossed in the hope that they can be persuaded to come in again as everyone clearly had a wonderful time.
