Activities at Mulberry Court Care Home

The team at Mulberry Court works hard to support and encourage residents to participate in both group and individual activities, based around their preferences and lifestyle choices. We take time to get to know each person, sitting with them and listening to them speak about their lives, interests, and aspirations. We have access to our own minibus so outings to nearby places of interest are available; for example local museums, art galleries, garden centres, and public houses. We also host themed evenings, such as 'Quiz and Meal-in-a-Basket', 'The Races (Greyhounds, Horses)', and 'Takeaway and Movie Night' that we also encourage relatives to come to. We believe lifestyle choices and activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, and it is essential that we help residents to have fulfilling and enjoyable lives.

Life at Mulberry Court Care Home

Herstory of Mayfair

‘Herstory’ of Mayfair

Residents across our services had a fantastic time joining Mandy Morrow for a virtual walking tour to learn about the ‘Herstory’ of Mayfair. The Mayfair of Nightingales may be long gone but it still holds a 20th century charm. Birthplace to the late Queen Elizabeth II, home to one of WWII's most decorated female war heroes and a tale of a wealthy Aristocrat and one of France's favourite designers.

We were delighted to take a walk down memory lane and discover stories from one of London's most iconic areas.  The experience was truly enjoyed by all.

A trip to the local park

We have been taking our residents for a short walk to our beautiful local park while the weather is good.  Just a 15 minute walk up the road and we are there.  We enjoy a tour around the ornamental garden and pond and  take a look at the Coronation sculptures and beautiful flowers.  With a little picnic on board it’s a lovely morning trip out for our residents.

Alzheimer’s Society donation

Our General Manager Rachael Moss and registered volunteer Mike Pollard were very proud to hand over a cheque for £200 to  Julie Henderson, representative from the Alzheimer’s Society . We raised the money from our 'A mile a day for a week in May' where we took residents each day for a walk around the local area to raise money for this worthy cause.

Tissue Flower Making

It's amazing what you can make with tissue paper just look at these summer flower arrangements we made at Mulberry Court.  A little bit fiddly but as one of our residents commented "keeps us out of mischief!"

Double celebrations

Double celebrations this week at Mulberry Court Care Home in York as Mike Pollard has been crowned Volunteer of the Year and Christopher Stone has also scooped Garden of the Year for the North Division in the Barchester Care Awards 2023 and are through to the national round of judging.

The Barchester Care Awards celebrate the staff who go the extra mile for the benefit of the 13,000 residents living in Barchester’s 252 care homes and private hospitals across the country. Categories range from ‘Registered Nurse of the Year’ and ‘Carer of the Year’ to ‘Dementia Care Champion’ and ‘Activities Coordinator of the Year’.

A dogs life

Across of homes residents had a fantastic time during a special live virtual event, led by Jennifer and Emily from Dogs Trust, the UK's largest dog welfare charity. Jennifer and Emily took us on a journey to discover the rich history of Dogs Trust and their facilities.

Using captivating video and photo footage, our residents were able to explore rehoming centres and learn more about the highest level of welfare offered there. It was a delightful experience for everyone, especially our dog lovers.
