Activities at Mulberry Court Care Home

The team at Mulberry Court works hard to support and encourage residents to participate in both group and individual activities, based around their preferences and lifestyle choices. We take time to get to know each person, sitting with them and listening to them speak about their lives, interests, and aspirations. We have access to our own minibus so outings to nearby places of interest are available; for example local museums, art galleries, garden centres, and public houses. We also host themed evenings, such as 'Quiz and Meal-in-a-Basket', 'The Races (Greyhounds, Horses)', and 'Takeaway and Movie Night' that we also encourage relatives to come to. We believe lifestyle choices and activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, and it is essential that we help residents to have fulfilling and enjoyable lives.

Zoe Giles

Lead Activities Co-ordinator

Hi my name is Zoe I am the lead activities co-ordinator here at Mulberry Court, I started in January 2024 having previously worked at another care home on reception, however I  started doing more and more activities with the resident’s there so when I got the chance to move across to a Barchester home and do the role of lead I took the opportunity.

I have always enjoyed organising and am usually the one in the family who brings everyone together and sorts things so I feel I have found my true calling!

I am so lucky to be able to say I love my job, no two days are ever the same, although every day is so rewarding and to know I have made a difference to someone is the greatest feeling whether that’s through a group activity or an individual room visit to even stopping and saying a few words to them.

Life at Mulberry Court Care Home

Starlings virtual talk

Across our services our residents have enjoyed a wonderful live virtual talk about starlings, one of the UK’s most gregarious birds, hosted by Rachel Dowse from The Royal Parks London.

Rachel examined our long history with this bird and the importance of common species to our lives. Our residents had the opportunity to find out more about the great murmuration and why we need to pay special attention to these beauties before it's too late.

The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all.

Long service celebrated

A carer at Mulberry Court in York has received a prestigious 10 Year Service Award in celebration of working at Barchester Healthcare for 10 years and has retired.  Bless Palmer started at Barchester in January 2013 and has worked with residents and their relatives to ensure that their needs have been met over the years.

Rachael Moss, General Manager of Mulberry Court said: “We’re delighted to be celebrating 10 years of loyal service with Bless, she has demonstrated her dedication and loyalty to this home and its residents year after year. I speak for all of us here at Mulberry Court when I say that we will miss Bless enormously now she has retired, it’s a celebration but a sad day too as we say farewell.

Rock & Roll

Mulberry Court enjoyed an afternoon of live music from ‘The Ides of March’ who came in to get everyone foot tapping and hand clapping to some 60’s and 70’s music.

Christmas Centrepiece Making

Residents had a prickly time with some hand-picked holly from our gardens but it was all worthwhile when we created some gorgeous centre pieces for Christmas day.

Christmas Party

Mulberry Court Christmas party is always such fun, with crackers and paper hats everyone had a great time. We even had one of our carers come in and play us a few songs on her guitar.
