Activities at North Park Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Claire Liddy

Activities Lead Coordinator

Hi, my name is Claire, and I am Lead Activities Coordinator at North Park. I first started doing activities in 2007 and fell in love with the job. I came to North Park in 2019 as lead Activities Coordinator.

I like to involve the local community in events within the home, so we have connections with local churches, schools and community groups. We have a PAT dog that visits weekly, so our residents can enjoy pet therapy, and lots of external entertainers, who come into the home regularly as well; in addition to fairs, monthly coffee mornings, family and friends events and so much more.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at North Park Care Home

Board Games

Board games on a rainy day

The bad weather can't stop us from having fun! On this cold and rainy day one of our activities co-ordinators, Linda, planned a fun afternoon in the lounge and set up our board games, puzzles and a painting station for our residents to enjoy.

We take pride in our activities programmes as we know they promote socialisation amongst our residents. Our residents' families also got involved in board games and there was a bit of healthy competition to go around! It was all fun and games.

Pub Lunch , Pub Lunch

Pub lunch outing

Two of our residents enjoyed a trip out to our local pub. We try our best to grant all of our residents at least one "wish" using money that is kindly donated to us by the local community and for Paul his was to visit The Brinkburn Pub where he used to visit a lot with his family.

Steve our head of maintenance drove Paul and his friend David, who is another one of our residents, to the pub in our own mini bus. They enjoyed a classic pub lunch and a pint which went down a treat!

Caribbean

Caribbean Fayre

Our team got into the Caribbean spirit and organised a fun filled day including hook a duck, knocking down coconuts and stocks where residents had the opportunity to throw wet sponges at staff and their relatives! Our team and volunteer Trish worked hard to transform the home into a Caribbean paradise.

Lisa our General Manager dressed as a pineapple and Ben our Deputy Manager dressed as a banana! The children who attended thought they looked very funny! "Kev The Care Home Singer" kept us all entertained throughout the day with his amazing singing and music. Jerk chicken was also on the menu!

Maintenance scoops coverted title

Steve Hagan at North Park Care Centre in Darlington has been crowned Head of Maintenance for the North NE Division in the Barchester Care Awards 2023 and is through to the national round of judging.

The Barchester Care Awards celebrate the staff who go the extra mile for the benefit of the 13,000 residents living in Barchester’s 252 care homes and private hospitals across the country. Categories range from ‘Registered Nurse of the Year’ and ‘Carer of the Year’ to ‘Dementia Care Champion’ and ‘Activities Coordinator of the Year’.

Home sleep out for charity

Care home workers from Barchester’s North Park care centre in Darlington spent 24 hours on the streets from 9.00 am on July 13 to 9.00 am on July 14 to raise awareness of homelessness in Darlington and to raise funds for local homeless charities.

Staff and residents at North Park had been discussing what charities they wanted to support.  Residents at the home expressed a concern about the number of people sleeping rough in Darlington so staff decided to take part in The Big Sleep Out in order to do their bit to help.

‘Herstory’ of Mayfair

Residents across our services had a fantastic time joining Mandy Morrow for a virtual walking tour to learn about the ‘Herstory’ of Mayfair.  The Mayfair of Nightingales may be long gone but it still holds a 20th century charm. Birthplace to the late Queen Elizabeth II, home to one of WWII's most decorated female war heroes and a tale of a wealthy Aristocrat and one of France's favourite designers.

We were delighted to take a walk down memory lane and discover stories from one of London's most iconic areas.  The experience was truly enjoyed by all.
