Activities at North Park Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Life at North Park Care Home

Book Club Corner

Across our services, our residents had a lovely time joining Mark Piesing for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘N-4 Down: The Hunt for The Arctic Airship Italia’.

Our residents were thrilled to find out more about the book and the fascinating story of the world-famous exploring airship Italia, returning from the North Pole on May 24, 1928. The airship was struck by a terrible storm and crashed somewhere over the Arctic ice, triggering the largest polar rescue mission in history.

The virtual book club experience was truly enjoyed by all.

Valentine’s Day at North Park

Our residents enjoyed delicious treats and food while celebrating St Valentine’s Day in style.

All residents woke up to heart shaped chocolates and inspirational quotes. Before enjoying a themed quiz whilst indulging themselves with chocolate muffin cakes.

There was a delicious themed evening meal prepared by our head chef Karl where not only our residents enjoyed but couples came together to celebrate in style.

A Visit to the Oriental Museum

North Park take pride in enriching the lives of residents as well as encouraging them to maintain their interests and community connections. As part of this we have a wishing tree where residents or their family members are able to write a wish and hang it on the tree.

Resident Bobbie's wish was to visit the Oriental Museum in Durham as she was a member of the embroidery society who would assist the museum keeping tapestries and garments in good shape.

Bobbie had a wonderful day with some other residents and we will be returning when the exhibits change in May.

Wish comes true

North Park Resident, Bobbie Storey in Darlington had expressed a wish to revisit the Oriental Museum in Durham so staff at the home made her wish a reality.

Bobbie has lived at North Park Care Centre since November 2022 and settled in immediately making friends with staff and residents alike. Staff at the home were delighted to be a part of making her wish become a reality, as they knew how much it meant to her, and they all wanted to be there to see the smile on Bobbie’s face.

From Ancient Egypt to modern China, they are the only museum in the North of England devoted entirely to the art and archaeology of the great cultures of Northern Africa and Asia.

An afternoon of jazz

One of our past residents, Cliff, loved playing his guitar for all of our enjoyment.

After Cliff passed, residents really missed his Blues and Jazz music, however, as Cliff was well known around the clubs, some of his fellow musicians came along to treat residents with a Jazz afternoon. We were joined by Cliffs family and some of his friends and we had a fantastic afternoon of music, cocktails, cheeses and nibbles.

Resident Jessie stated this has been a marvellous afternoon, they are so talented, I love ‘real music’ it is food for the soul.

Royal Parks London

Across our services our residents have enjoyed a wonderful live virtual talk about starlings, one of the UK’s most gregarious birds, hosted by Rachel Dowse from The Royal Parks London.

Rachel examined our long history with this bird and the importance of common species to our lives. Our residents had the opportunity to find out more about the great murmuration and why we need to pay special attention to these beauties before it's too late.

The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all.
