Activities at Oak Grange Care Home
Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Life at Oak Grange Care Home
Chinese New Year
We welcomed in the Year of the Tiger with a day of celebrations and activities.
The Chinese New Year is China’s most important festival that celebrated the beginning of a new year on the traditional lunisolar calendar.
Inspired by Chinese culture and traditions, our residents enjoyed a creative session with Chinese New Year DIY dragons and made beautiful lanterns to mark the day.
We all enjoyed some music from Greater China, watched last year’s celebrations and had a discussion about the animals associated with the Chinese zodiac. It was a fun day.
Valentine's inspired cookery demo
We had a lovely time joining Chef Alex Connell from Vegetarian for Life for a Valentine’s-inspired virtual cookery demonstration. Chef Alex created some delicious Valentine’s Day-inspired vegetarian desserts, which our residents had the opportunity to try too.
First, our residents sampled a wonderful sticky toffee pudding, which was absolutely heavenly. Then they tried hazelnut truffles which were a huge hit and finally they were treated to a chocolate orange cake which everyone adored.
Burns celebrations
The children at St.Oswalds school in Mollington created Burns Night goodies for each of the residents. The year 5 and 6 pupils are doing a badge for sharing community spirit. This is part of the Archbishop of York’s initiative to try and help people in the community to feel connected and our residents enjoy their inter-generational links. They made Scottish tablet, wrote out the poem for addressing of the haggis, and found out lots of interesting facts about Scotland
Garden project
Residents and colleagues at Oak Grange have been busy creating a tranquil area to be able to reflect, reminisce and remember our loved ones. We have had the help of many local community contacts and the space has been created for all to enjoy.
A little magic!
We had a lot of fun celebrating the life and works of Harry Houdini. His first performance was in 1903 and we looked at different magicians througout the decades and tried magic tricks of our own, before colouring some optical illusions and finally magic word scramble.
Burns supper
Oak Grange care home in Mollington prepared a traditional Burns Night Supper to the tune of bagpipes and the fun continued well into the wee small hours.
Staff and residents at the home were involved in a number of activities designing their own tartans and taking a look at their family tartans, to mark the Scottish institution, including giving the time-honoured address to the ‘Great chieftain O’ the pudding’ race’ – the haggis.
General Manager, Karen Fitzgerald, at Oak Grange thought it was a perfect occasion to celebrate an evening steeped in age-old tradition as well as getting in a spot of Scotch whisky tasting, reading a selection of Burns’ poems
