Activities at Oak Grange Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Life at Oak Grange Care Home

Home celebrate Year of the Ox

Staff and residents at Oak Grange Care home in Mollington welcomed in the Year of the Ox with a day of themed celebrations and activities.

Inspired by Chinese culture and traditions, Residents at Oak Grange had a Chinese themed party with music, they enjoyed the Lion and Dragon Dance prepared by the homes Life Enrichment team. The home was decorated with red hanging lanterns as Residents learnt all about the traditions and superstitions of Chinese New Year.  Head chef, Simon Burns cooked up an oriental feast for lunch and residents enjoyed the delicious food washed down with pots of Chinese tea.

Karen Fitzgerald, General Manager of Barchester’s Oak Grange Care Home said: “We have had a brilliant day, the home looks absolutely wonderful decorated all in red and we all had such fun finding out what animal we are, the associated traits and reading each other’s horoscopes.  The residents loved watching videos of traditional lion and dragon dances too.

Talent Afternoon

At Oak Grange Care Home, we celebrated a birthday with a very special talent show in throughout the home. Our residents enjoyed a fantastic afternoon with snacks, refreshments, music, poetry, special in-house performers and games.  It was a fun-filled afternoon for everyone.

Keeping active

The residents at Oak Grange Care Home have a varied life enrichment program. From exercising to music, planting up pots for the garden to virtual tours around our local zoo. Each day there are popular group activities, with social distancing, bringing people together. Along with individual person centred activities.

Here at Oak Grange we like to keep mind, body and soul active and stimulated. The residents enjoyed an afternoon of dancing along to the Enriching Communities CIC Wartime Dance session. Then relaxed listening to a performance from Andy Quin on zoom.

New Year celebrations

Resident, Rhoda Gourlay who has celebral palsy and is registered blind since she was 6-years old, took to the floor to give other residents a talk on using braille.  Rhoda who is self-taught also brought along a number of her own personal possessions to talk about.  These items includes her phone, talking watch, audio books, solitaire and cards all of which have braille on them.  In addition, the homes activities team brought along scrabble, food packaging, short bread and medication box.  Everyone enjoyed this informative session.

Home host special pantomine performance

Residents from Oak Grange Care Home in Mollington Road were treated to a very special production created by the homes care team, a Christmas pantomime performance as part of the homes life enrichment programme.

During these challenging times, staff from Oak Grange Care Home look at different ways to keep the homes residents stimulated and entertained and decided to host their own pantomime – Alice in Oak Grange land – staff came together to plan, host and residents sat back to enjoy the timeless tale full of magical twists, fun, laughter and adventures!

One resident commented; “it was the best pantomime production I have seen in years, it was really lovely and the actors really made me laugh!”

Residents enjoy pen-pal link with University

Residents of Oak Grange are enjoying their pen-pal initiative with their new friends at The University of Chester who are working with them to create diversity and prevent loneliness with a pen pal program and virtual craft activities.  The residents and students are sharing stories and memories through their letters.
