Activities at Oaklands Care Home
Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Life at Oaklands Care Home

Teddy Bear's Picnic
We held our Teddy bears picnic to celebrate national picnic month. We invited the community to join us for an afternoon of fun with singing from the fabulous Kirsty Wright and Teddys in the tree for the children to spot and match the numbers up and eventually win and take home. Kirsty sang lots of engaging songs for all ages and introduced us to a new song which was loved by the younger generation “Baby shark” it caused some funny looks amongst the older generation, but we all got stuck in and learnt some new moves.
Residents loved watching the children play with their teddies and bubbles and the great imagination of Rays grandchildren who built wooden tepees and camp fires from sticks around the woods.
We look forward to holding the event again next year.

Summer Fete
We all had a fabulous afternoon at our summer fete.
A massive thank you firstly to our residents and relatives for always supporting us and secondly to all the entertainers and stall holders for helping make the afternoon happen for our residents.
We enjoyed music from Kirsty and the Wicken Brass Band and once again our super raffle ticket caller Tyson who did a great job.
At Oaklands we love opening our home up and hosting events that friends and family can join us for. Shared experiences are the best experiences and we ensure that our residents remain connected with their loved ones whilst they live with us.

Wimbledon hits Oaklands
We started our Wimbledon fever with some of our own games using a balloon and we had such great fun. It all started friendly but the competitive side gradually came out and it was women against men at one point with the men being outnumbered by the women with the cheering each other on. Residents went on to enjoy watching the matches at Wimbledon.

A the Car Wash...
Ray has always loved washing his cars and this would be a weekly activity while he was at home and he and his wife Julie were talking about this one day so the activity team decided to make this happen and so Ray was tasked to clean the mini bus and what a fabulous job he done whilst having great fun, every time he needed moving he would say “move me maestro “
Ray talked Anna through the process and that you should start at the top and work your way down and he rinsed off the soap and then he said and “really we should polish now” but the weather wasn’t on our side so next time we will do a proper job.

D-day
As we took time to remember the Brave soldiers that fought and gave their lives for us we were treated to a very special drive by from Bottisham air museum with their military vehicle’s and personal all dressed up and gave us a little parade, it gave us an opportunity to reminisce about stories we had shared amongst our families. Later that day we enjoyed a cuppa with friends and read through the oomph workbooks, giving us more opportunity to remember loved ones.

A resident's wish comes true
Moorea has wished for a punch and Judy show and at the last couple of residents meeting she has suggested this ,so with a lot of phone calls and emails we made that happen. We were joined by the punch and Judy show along with the vintage ice cream bike and cloud 9 choir for a fabulous family afternoon, it didn’t all quite go to plan but we adapted to the weather conditions as the afternoon went on. We enjoyed a 30 minute show with audience participation and then we learnt about the puppets and some history behind it all. Families were then able to move outside as the sun had finally come out from behind the clouds(maybe the sun is scared of puppets!!)and we were treated to some wonderful singing in our courtyard as we enjoyed delicious ice-cream. Wonderful afternoon all in all.
