Activities at Ouse View Care Home
We understand that the people we will be supporting will have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we won’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our activities team will be dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events will be organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active.
We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities.
Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends. The home also has its very own minibus for our numerous outings for coffee and shopping, which residents love. We also enjoy our regular clubs, virtual events and varied life enrichment programme.
Read our brochure 'Life-enriching activities' for more information about life in our care homes.

Life at Ouse View Care Home
Christmas advent
Residents at Ouse View enjoyed creating their own advent calendar bags to hang on the first Christmas tree here at Ouse View this year.
Christmas songs were playing and residents sang as glitter and glue was flung in creation of the festive advent bags, filled full of delicious chocolates for each day of December.
Val, a resident at Ouse View, said: “It is lovely to be festive and create items to hang on the Christmas tree. I really like Christmas time, I have wonderful memories’.
Pauline Hodgson, Senior General Manager at Ouse View, said: “Residents are feeling festive and so are we! We are looking forward to the first of the month and a second lovely Christmas here at Ouse View, with many more residents than last year”.
Board Games in the Cafe
Residents at Ouse View enjoyed tea and coffee with a classic game of noughts and crosses.
Ouse View has a wonderful community atmosphere with happy residents joining in games on a daily basis, care staff love to join in with the activities team when playing games with the residents.
The songs of the 50's and 60's played as the games began.
It is too early for Christmas songs?!
Winston Churchill's love affair with Blenheim Palace
Our residents were thrilled to join Antonia Keaney - Blenheim Palace’s Historian for an intriguing virtual talk on Winston Churchill.
The private resources of Blenheim Palace were drawn upon to afford very new and refreshing insights into this remarkable man. During the talk Antonia shared fascinating information about the breadth of talent, achievement and personality of the "Greatest Briton": soldier, politician, statesman, painter, writer, orator, family man - and bricklayer!
We all had a wonderful time and enjoyed learning more about UK’s former Prime Minister.
Feed the Birds
This afternoon here at Ouse View, Residents enjoyed creating their own bird feeders for the garden.
The ladies mixed together their fat, oils and seeds to make little hanging bird feeders for the trees outside in the grounds.
Later in the afternoon we wrapped up warm to hang the seeds on the trees, nearby to the windows so everyone was able to see the little birds who visit!
Festive wreath making
We were delighted to join Blooming Haus’s Christmas Wreath Making Masterclass, where Master Florist, Michal and his business partner - Michael showed us the best method to create beautiful festive wreaths.
Following the tips and ideas learnt during the amazing virtual experience, we were happy to put our skills to a test and to enter the #BarchesterChristmasWreaths competition.
We all had a wonderful time creating our festive wreath/s.
Thank you @bloominghaus for helping our residents flow into the true spirit of Noel.
Home donate to local foodbank
Ouse View care home in York, wanted to give a little back the community by donating to the local food bank in York
Relatives of Ouse View where asked for their support in building a box or two for the monthly food bank donation.
A huge thank you to all staff who also donated, today we handed over a few crates of dry foods, biscuits and goodies.
Pauline Hodgson, General Manager at Ouse View Care Home, said: “Building up these baskets for the food bank was such a great thing for us to be able to do.
