Activities at Queens Manor Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Shannon Cullen
Hi, my name is Shannon and I am Head of Lifestyle and Enrichment here at Queens Manor. I have come to Queens Manor with 6 years of experience in the planning, activities and events sector.
I ensure that myself and the team get to know each resident's preferences so that we can deliver a person-centred programme of events and activities within the home - Including activities that positively impact physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. I strongly believe that creating great moments and memories for our residents and embracing their individuality with tailor made activities is the way forward.
In an era of developing technologies, we are using new ways of reaching out to family and friends - though Zoom, Skype and Facebook Portal. We hope that our residents never feel alone or too far away from their loved ones this way. Each day I like to ensure that our residents enjoy themselves in a calm, stimulating and fun environment, whilst creating bonds with each other and staff.

Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Queens Manor Care Home
Animal Magic
Queens Manor was full of fun when two miniature Shetland ponies came to visit. Residents at Queens Manor Care Home were pleasantly surprised to see their new furry friends roaming around the home as John and Elaine from Therapy Ponies Scotland paid a visit with Wilson & Flicker.
Residents, staff and visitors alike loved seeing them wandering the home and into rooms, paying everyone a special visit.
Cornish Seal Sanctuary
A big thank you to the Cornish Seal Sanctuary for the fantastic live virtual event today!
Residents across our services loved seeing the seals up close and learning about the incredible work the sanctuary does to protect them and other wildlife in Cornwall as well.
Everyone truly enjoyed the experience.
A little love shared....
A newlywed couple from Australia shared their love by donating their fresh wedding flowers to our Residents.
Following their wedding at Dundas Castle, Jamie and Chris the happy couple donated their flowers for residents to enjoy with resident, Audrey commenting, “I thoroughly enjoyed looking at and appreciating the beautiful flowers that were donated to us – it was lovely to then use these flowers to make our own displays for around the home for everyone to enjoy”.
Enjoying a laugh at the cafe
Sometimes a wee trip to the café across the road for a cuppa, piece of cake and a good laugh is all you need on a typical Scottish chilly day!
Residents Moira, Jean and Brenda all enjoyed their time out together with staff members Paulina, Beata and Erika - to the local Cloudberry Café - Moira commented how she hadn't laughed so much in ages. What a lovely afternoon!
Fringe Fun!
Did we tell you about a group of residents who made a trip to see the Ladyboys of Bangkok during the Fringe Festival Last Month? Audrey, Jemima, Audrey and Dot, along with Leeanne, Eirka, Natascia & Silji all had a great night out in Edinburgh watching the world renowned show! This is Audrey's 4th time seeing the Ladyboy's and each time she says it gets better and better!
Fit Care
At Queens Manor, we offer a weekly exercise class ran by John from FitCare Scotland.
As well as helping to build up strength and fitness levels, the class has also seen some of the residents who tend to be on the quieter side become more confident, social and engage more in the home.
Classes like this help ensure ongoing social interaction and promote self-esteem. Since the classes started back in May 2023, there has been a measurable improvement in strength and mobility for each participating resident - this in turn can help with all aspects of physical and spiritual wellbeing!
