Activities at Queens Manor Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Shannon Cullen
Hi, my name is Shannon and I am Head of Lifestyle and Enrichment here at Queens Manor. I have come to Queens Manor with 6 years of experience in the planning, activities and events sector.
I ensure that myself and the team get to know each resident's preferences so that we can deliver a person-centred programme of events and activities within the home - Including activities that positively impact physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. I strongly believe that creating great moments and memories for our residents and embracing their individuality with tailor made activities is the way forward.
In an era of developing technologies, we are using new ways of reaching out to family and friends - though Zoom, Skype and Facebook Portal. We hope that our residents never feel alone or too far away from their loved ones this way. Each day I like to ensure that our residents enjoy themselves in a calm, stimulating and fun environment, whilst creating bonds with each other and staff.
Read our brochure 'Life-enriching activities' for more information about life in our care homes.

Life at Queens Manor Care Home
Live Music Now
We are delighted to be working with live music now, who are providing Queens Manor residents with an 8 session block of music and smiles!
We recently enjoyed a visit from Rosie and Anna who were classically trained and provided amazing operatic renditions of old favourites! Including ally bally, you are my sun shine and somewhere over the rainbow.
The feedback from residents have been great & gave encouraged us to make our very own Queens Manor singing group!
We can’t wait for the next session with Rosie & Anna!
Furry Fun!
We had a special visitor recently - 8 week old, Labrador puppy, Baxter!
Baxter is going to his forever home soon, but couldn’t stop himself from popping into say hi! Residents adored having him in for the day - providing furry hugs and laughs as we watched him play.
At Queens Manor, we understand the importance of animas in care homes - regular interactions can have both immediate and long lasting positive mental and physical effects. From increased social interaction, reduction of loneliness and stress reduction and relaxation, they are of course adorable to look at, but they help in so many other ways!
Our staff also loved getting a quick cuddle!
Thanks for popping in Baxter - please do feel free to stop by again!
3rd annual Fringe celebrations
2024 Fringe Cares Festival – conceived by The Edinburgh Interfaith Association back in 2023 – started once again with a very successful event at Queen’s Manor Care Home on Queensferry Road. Performers from all over the world take part in the Fringe Cares Festival which brings a taste of the musical & theatrical talents of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe to all residents of 7 care homes in the city, in a partnership sponsored by Barchester Healthcare, The Edinburgh Interfaith Association, Scottish Care and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society.
Queens Manor Care Home, the founding care home Residents, relatives, friends and staff – along with several guests from the local community, were able to participate in a full afternoon of entertainment. Lord Provost Councillor Robert Aldridge attended and said, “This is my favourite part of the Fringe”
Homes join 100th virtual event
Barchester care homes and hospitals nationwide linked together for a fantastic quiz in celebration of Barchester’s 100th live virtual event.
Residents engaged in a variety of questions ranging from historical trivia to visual puzzles and brainteasers.
For those joining everyone had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.
Floating the canal of Ratho!
Despite a little rain, we loved our monthly outing to the Seagull Trust Cruises - Ratho for their canal trip :)
With a packed lunch courtesy of our hospitality team and plenty of laughs provided by all, it's no wonder everyone had a joyous time!
The trip was made even more special with a few family members in attendance too!
If you see an outing in our schedule coming up that you think you would like to come along to with your loved one, please do let us know- we would love to have you!
Rickshaw rides at Cramond Beach!
What a lovely afternoon we had at Cramond Beach courtesy of Joy Rides - a breath of fresh air - Lisa was amazing and the residents loved doing for their jaunt down by the beach!
Val even got a wee look in the Cramond history centre (the Maltings) - given her knowledge and association with the Cramond Society!
We are not only looking forward to our next trip with Lisa; but also a tour of the centre by Val!
