Activities at Red Oaks Care Home
We believe in making a difference to the lives of people living here with us and ensure that we provide a lifestyle full of choice and stimulation that is centred around each resident here at Red Oaks. This includes a whole host of varied activities, together with regular trips out around the region, taking full advantage of the home’s minibus. Our aim is to enable each person we support to continue to do the things they enjoy for as long as they possibly can.
Sue McHoy
My role as activity coordinator at Red Oaks is ensuring that all residents have a full and varied activity program. Using our getting to know me books and knowing our residents backgrounds develop our activity program. Having lived in Henfield for the past 10 years I enjoy assisting residents maintaining and forming new the community connections.
I am passionate about my role, the part is having fun and making people smile.

Life at Red Oaks Care Home
The Chanctonbury Challenge
For the second year running, Red Oaks and Rayner Court residents were invited to help four local junior schools complete the Chanctonbury Challenge. The challenges involves taking residents into local schools to talk about their lives with pupils, who will then create PowerPoint presentations based around their experiences.
Old Burn Nursery Garden Centre
Every week we always have at least one trip out; most recently, residents wanted to go to the Old Barn Nursery Garden Centre for some shopping, coffee and cakes.
French Food Evening Menu
Throughout the year, we have many world food themed events to celebrate international cuisine. In February, we had a French supper menu that included classic French onion soup, croque monsieur and chicken breton, followed by a selection of French desserts. All the residents thoroughly enjoyed the dining experience.
Burns Night at Red Oaks
Traditional Burns Night food isn't to everyone's taste, but Red Oak's Head Chef, Leigh Clifford, came up with an innovative menu to suit nearly everyone's appetite on Burns Night:
Starter
Cock-a-leekie soup
Chunky chicken, leek & bacon soup
Main Courses
Bloody Mary feef served with neeps & tatties
Haggis croquettes served with whiskey sauce
Desert
Cranachan
Toasted oats, whiskey, honey, cream & raspberries
Everyone agreed it was an amazing menu for Burns Night.
Photography Time
Everyone who visits a nursing home is used to seeing photographs being taken of residents enjoying activities. Well, this time, residents wanted to take pictures of themselves; a member of staff arranged a suitable backdrop and set a camera up that was connected to the TV, so that everyone could see the photos that we being taken. The results were truly amazing, with everyone being very keen to take pictures of each other.
Trudie and Her PAT Dog Come to Visit Red Oaks
Trudie and her PAT dogs have been regular visitors to Red Oaks for many years. On this occasion, she brought in Amber, who the residents at Red Oaks have known ever since she was a nine week old puppy; we were even lucky enough to get to name her. Trudie's dogs love coming to the home and visiting residents in both the nursing and dementia communities.
