Activities at Red Oaks Care Home
We believe in making a difference to the lives of people living here with us and ensure that we provide a lifestyle full of choice and stimulation that is centred around each resident here at Red Oaks. This includes a whole host of varied activities, together with regular trips out around the region, taking full advantage of the home’s minibus. Our aim is to enable each person we support to continue to do the things they enjoy for as long as they possibly can.
Sue McHoy
My role as activity coordinator at Red Oaks is ensuring that all residents have a full and varied activity program. Using our getting to know me books and knowing our residents backgrounds develop our activity program. Having lived in Henfield for the past 10 years I enjoy assisting residents maintaining and forming new the community connections.
I am passionate about my role, the part is having fun and making people smile.

Life at Red Oaks Care Home
Christmas Day at Red Oaks
Christmas Day at Red Oaks is a very special day for all residents, relatives and staff. From 11:00am onwards, we had canapés with champagne available for everyone, with a special appearance from Father Christmas to take the presents around to residents. At lunch, we had approximately 30 guests, and even the chef made an appearance in the restaurant to hand carve and serve up the meats to everyone.
Henfield Brownies Come to Visit Red Oaks
Red Oaks has very close links with many of the village youth groups. The Henfield Brownies have been coming to Red Oaks for more than 10 years and residents really look forward to the visits. This time they came to sing Christmas songs to everyone.
Portuguese Food Night
At Red Oaks, we regularly have themed food events. This gives some of our overseas staff the opportunity to prepare and make food dishes from their native country so that residents can eat and experience something new. The Portuguese food was very well-received by most of the residents, who asked for it again.
Garden Party
Every year, Red Oaks has a Garden Party as a way of saying thank you to all of the relatives, friends and volunteers at the home for all their support throughout the year. This year, to entertain everyone, Helen Bartlett - a regular at Red Oaks - sang. Helen sings songs from a range of eras, including the thirties and fourties, all the way up to the sixties and seventies. To keep everyone in the mood, champagne and strawberries and cream were served throughout the afternoon.
Barchester Care Awards Winner!
We are proud to announce that Red Oaks Care Home has been declared the winner of the 'Innovative Garden of the Year' catergory at the Barchester Care Awards, which occured on 12th October 2016.
General Manager, Duncan Edwards, said: “We are delighted to have won this award. I am very proud of all those who have been involved in helping our garden grow from strength to strength, especially our Maintenance Team led by Steve Martin, who built the amazing shop in our garden.”
Barchester in Bloom Finalists
Residents and staff are overjoyed that their garden has been announced as a regional winner of the Innovative Garden category for the Barchester in Bloom competition, which aims to promote gardening and celebrate the beautiful outdoor spaces that are lovingly cared for by residents, staff and the local community.
Judges were impressed by the standard of the home’s garden and picked it out as the top garden for this category in the whole of the South East.
As a regional winner, the garden automatically qualifies for the Barchester in Bloom 2016 national finals. The home will find out whether or not their garden has the best community garden in the UK at an awards ceremony in October, so fingers crossed!
