Activities at Red Oaks Care Home

We believe in making a difference to the lives of people living here with us and ensure that we provide a lifestyle full of choice and stimulation that is centred around each resident here at Red Oaks. This includes a whole host of varied activities, together with regular trips out around the region, taking full advantage of the home’s minibus. Our aim is to enable each person we support to continue to do the things they enjoy for as long as they possibly can.

Sue McHoy

Activities Coordinator

My role as activity coordinator at Red Oaks is ensuring that all residents have a full and varied activity program. Using our getting to know me books and knowing our residents backgrounds develop our activity program. Having lived in Henfield for the past 10 years I enjoy assisting residents maintaining and forming new the community connections.

I am passionate about my role, the part is having fun and making people smile.

Life at Red Oaks Care Home

Four Hairy Bikers Visit Red Oaks

Four Hairy Bikers Visit Red Oaks

Red Oaks recently installed a wish tree for residents to request things they'd like to see or experience. One of the residents wished to see some motor bikes, so resident hairdresser, Marilyn, arranged for some of her friends to turn up at Red Oaks with their motorbikes and have a chat with them.

Congratulations to our Home Team, who have been named as Divisional Winners in the Team of the Year category at this year's Barchester Care Awards.

Outdoor Shakespeare Production

Outdoor Shakespeare Production

Once again, the Henfield Theatre Company decided to hold an outdoor production within Red Oak's gardens. This year, they decided to put on a performance of Shakespeare's 'The Taming of the Shrew'. Every night was a complete sell out and many of the residents stayed out to watch the entire play. Everyone had a very good laugh.

Proms in the Park 2016

Proms in the Park 2016

Following on from last year's very successful concert, Red Oaks once again opened its gardens to the general public for the Proms in the Park concert.

This year, the concert was held on Sunday 26th June, and it was open to anyone who wanted to attend. Lots of people brought their picnic hampers and bottles of champagne. It was a quintessentially British affair, with lots of Union Jacks and a great Pimm's tent.

Animal Extravaganza

Animal Extravaganza

Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) is a great way to stimulate the minds and senses of both the young and elderly. We have experience working alongside people of all ages with various conditions, such as dementia, autism, down syndrome and the visually impaired. Residents had the opportunity to have close physical contact with the animals, which can bring happy childhood memories of past pets.

Pictured is 'Skinny,' a hairless guinea pig also known as a 'skinnypig,' who received lots of attention from residents.

Henfield Garden & Arts Festival

Henfield Garden & Arts Festival

For the 10th year running, Red Oaks have taken part in the annual Henfield Garden & Arts Festival. This year, 32 gardens were open to the general public to view with many having exhibitions of various arts forms on display. Red Oaks had 5 concerts in the grounds this year with many exhibitors displaying their various crafts. We also had a sculptor, 2 artists and several craft people, as well as a landscape photographer - all with displays for sale. The whole purpose of the weekend was to raise money for local charities and this year's main charity was The Haven, a charity that provides day care for elderly people of Henfield. Among the performing artists this year, we had Lori Standen, The Silver Sounds Samba Band, The Steyning Grammar School Jazz Band and the closing concert was performed by Three Penny Piece.
