Activities at Red Oaks Care Home
We believe in making a difference to the lives of people living here with us and ensure that we provide a lifestyle full of choice and stimulation that is centred around each resident here at Red Oaks. This includes a whole host of varied activities, together with regular trips out around the region, taking full advantage of the home’s minibus. Our aim is to enable each person we support to continue to do the things they enjoy for as long as they possibly can.
Sue McHoy
My role as activity coordinator at Red Oaks is ensuring that all residents have a full and varied activity program. Using our getting to know me books and knowing our residents backgrounds develop our activity program. Having lived in Henfield for the past 10 years I enjoy assisting residents maintaining and forming new the community connections.
I am passionate about my role, the part is having fun and making people smile.

Life at Red Oaks Care Home
Helen Bartlett sings for the Red Oaks Residents
Helen Bartlett has been a professional singer all her life and she decided to come to Red Oaks for the afternoon to entertain the residents.
Helen sings a range of genres from 30's and 40's, all the way up to the 60's and 70's. She was very much appreciated as she had many of the residents up and dancing and they asked if she could come back again.
Pasta & Pizza Day
Red Oaks were very lucky, as on this day we had a new Italian Chef who was receiving training at Red Oaks, so we put him to work!
For lunch he made lots of fresh pasta and in the afternoon he made Pizza base dough for the residents to make their own Pizzas in the afternoon which they all ate for their supper. Great fun was had by all!
John Cheyne comes to entertain the residents
John is a regular entertainer at Red Oaks he specialising in Interactive, foot tapping and sing along music. His repertoire is old style through to new based around 1950's 1960's and musicals. The residents love him as he doesn’t mind if the resident go up to the microphone and sing with him.
Scrabble Competition
We had 2 teams made up of Red Oaks residents and a team from our sister home in Shoreham by Sea, Kingsland House, to compete in a Scrabble competition. Kingsland House won but everyone had plenty of fun.
Silver Sounds Visits Red Oaks
'Silver Sounds' is a community Samba band that play all over Brighton and the surrounding areas for the past 25 years. To join you must be over 50 years old. They play at all the major events around Brighton and hold workshops in Care Homes and schools for Autistic children. They held a workshop at Red Oaks and the residents had a really wild time playing all the drums.
Best Bad Christmas Sweater Competition
For a bit of Christmas fun for the residents we had a "Best Bad Christmas Sweater Competition" in which the residents who had the worst Christmas Sweater won a prize! Many of the staff joined in and a lot of fun was had by all, it definitely got everyone in the Christmas spirit!
