Activities at Ross Court Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Life at Ross Court Care Home

Breakfast Club

The wonderful residents at Ross Court are getting into the swing of things with our new 'breakfast club', with welcoming fresh flowers, papers and magazines to look through while they enjoy a wide range of pastries. Looks like a great way to start the day.

Happy 85th Birthday Gwen

Today, 13th May, we celebrated the birthday of Gwendoline one of our respite residents. She’s an absolutely lovely lady who brightens our days every time she resides with us. Chef baked and presented her with a home-made cake whilst staff clapped and sang ‘Happy Birthday’. Gwen received calls from her family and her son popped by to deliver a beautiful bouquet and gifts which made her day.

Impressive Flower Pressing

Care Assistant; Susanne Ray took a troop of residents out to explore our beautiful gardens last week. They picked various flowers together, then placed them delicately between tissue paper to press within several heavy books over the coming week. Everyone was so impressed with the end result, Susanne transferred them to frames for display on our piano for all to see.

Queen’s Lady-in-Waiting Letter

We were very lucky to receive a letter from the Queen’s Lady-in-Waiting this week. At the start of April we decided to send a Birthday card to the Queen, on the occasion of her 94th Birthday on 21st April 2020. We included a letter from the residents and two photographs of the home and the residents out enjoying the garden. We never expected to receive a response from the palace (Windsor Castle, where she is staying) and were thrilled when the envelope and letter arrived yesterday – Thursday 30th April.

The Home Manager; Nicola Thomas went around the rooms and showed the residents and read it out to them, they were all overjoyed and it lifted their spirits during this extremely strange time. We give thanks to Her Majesty for her kind response.

VE Day Celebrations

The residents of Ross Court Care Home took time to remember on VE Day. Following the 2 minute silence at 11 o'clock, the home was filled with wartime music and singing. Delicious afternoon cream teas were served in the lounge where the residents enjoyed the sun and 1940's sounds. They raised a glass of sherry to all those brave souls lost during the war and courageous survivors. "We will never forget the sacrifices you made". All staff at Ross Court wish to thank our wonderful residents for sharing their memories of such an important day to us all.

Creative Easter Crafts

Residents at Ross Court are using their time indoors to get ahead of the Easter celebrations with some cheerful cards. These were made using wool wrapped around some cardboard and then covered with a piece of card with the shape cut out. The residents really enjoyed the finished result although they were a bit puzzled by the wrapping of the wool part of it!

As you can see they were all happy with their efforts and are looking forward to making some more in the coming weeks to send out to family & friends in the Community as they are unable to see them during this time.
