Activities at Scarborough Hall Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

We would like to welcome you to our activities team, Jessica Larkin and Skigh Harrison. Each coordinator started as carers in the home and they have worked together as an activities team for a number of years.
They are passionate about their role and providing the best for the Residents in the home, they enjoy finding new ways to of engaging and creating real and meaningful connections with the residents, through Resident centred 1-2-1 sessions, group activities, interesting outings and close links with our local communities.

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Scarborough Hall Care Home
Christmas decorations
Staff and residents at Barchester’s Scarborough Hall Care Home, in Scarborough, have been decking the halls, getting out the tinsel and unravelling the fairy lights, ready for a whole host of Christmas celebrations. Scarborough Hall’s residents and staff have been busy creating lots of home-made garlands and wreaths to make the home as festive as can be. The residents have also been crafting home-made decorations for the Christmas tree which they all helped to decorate, the tree is looking truly magnificent covered in beautiful Christmas lights, bows, and homemade decorations.
A magical outing
Scarborough Hall care home, in Scarborough, enjoyed getting in the Christmas spirit by visiting Santa’s garden on Tuesday evening. Nigel Watkinson has been transforming his garden into winter wonderland for the last 20 years, this year he is raising money for St Catherine’s hospice and we have been luckily enough to have secured tickets to the event before they sold out.
We really enjoyed watching the children enjoy the magical miniature train ride around the Santa’s garden which has surely got us feeling the festive spirit. Senior General Manager, Charlotte Nurse said: “We absolutely loved being able to take our residents out and about to visit Santa’s garden, it makes us all so happy to experience Christmas events like this. It has been a fantastic day and we’ve all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.”
Virtual trip to the Donkey Sanctuary
Across our services, Residents enjoyed a fantastic virtual tour of the Donkey Sanctuary Manchester. Residents were thrilled to meet the lovely herd of donkeys, including Henry and his best friend Tiny Tim and to learn more about their every day care. They were introduced to the sanctuary’s work and the impact they make to the lives of donkeys in need worldwide. The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all.
Baby & Toddler Group
Each month we host an intergenerational baby and toddler group, this month’s theme was a Halloween party where we got dressed up and played games like apple bobbing and conker collecting whilst enjoying lots of sweet treats. Resident Sheila can be seen having a wonderful time watching William play in the tunnel.
Themed baking club
Resident Kathleen proudly shows off her creations in this month’s popular baking club, we asked Kathleen what she would like to make and she said she has always wanted to try her hand at making a cheesecake, her favourite colour is green so it seemed only right to make a Halloweeny green themed cheesecake using lime for flavour and decoration.
Birds of Prey
Scarborough Hall Care Home, in Scarborough, was full of amazement on Tuesday when the Birds of prey came to visit the home.
Residents at Scarborough Hall were pleasantly surprised to see Birds such as Barn Owls and Tawney Owl, they brought in to the home by Animal house birds of prey.
General Manager Charlotte Nurse said: “Our residents have really enjoyed their unusual visitors today. We knew that having the bird of prey here would be a bit of fun for all our residents, especially as some find it difficult to go on many outings in our minibus. We are always looking for new activities for the residents and today we have seen the enjoyment and the therapeutic influence animals can have on people.”
