Activities at Scarborough Hall Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Life at Scarborough Hall Care Home

Royal Botanic Garden

Our homes enjoyed a wonderful virtual tour of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh with Community Engagement Manager, Charlotte Walker, and Botanic Cottage Operations Co-ordinator, Laura Gallagher.

The residents were thrilled to learn more about the history of the beautiful Garden, which is now a home to an impressive plant collection from around the world.

Charlotte and Laura also gave a demonstration of making fresh herbal tea and were happy to answer our questions.  The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all who joined.

Home host dementia talk

In order to support residents’ relatives and friends, and the local community, Barchester’s Scarborough Hall Care Home in Scarborough is hosted a free Alzheimer's Awareness Talk on 21.9.22 at 2pm and invited members of the community to attend.

Staff who are specially trained in dementia care from Dementia Action Alliance delivered the talk which covered topics such as how to spot the first signs of dementia, how to get a diagnosis, how to look after your loved one living with dementia and how to fund care as well as details of local support groups in the area.  There was plenty of time for Q&A during and at the end of the session.

General Manager, Charlotte Nurse says: “During Alzheimer's Awareness Month, we want to help and support relatives, friends and members of our local community who have loved ones who are living with dementia.”

Country and Western Fair

Our deputy manager is having  a cuddle with a beautiful 3 week old goat at our country and western themed summer fair. We welcomed all sorts of farm animals in our lovely garden courtesy of the Purple Pig Company. Residents, visitors and team  members had a fabulous afternoon listening to musical entertainment from Matt at Rewind and having a go on the stalls and games.

Mexican Independence Day

To celebrate Mexican Independence Day the residents really enjoyed creating their own flower arrangements in the colours of the Mexican flag. The arrangements were then used a centre pieces and for decoration around the home. This was a group activity which the activity team also offered on a 1-2-1 bases where residents worked very hard to create smaller posies which were given to other residents to brighten up their rooms and make them smile.

Intergenerational visit

Resident Eric Smith, Team Member Jessica Larkin and her daughter Florence enjoy spending time together in our popular intergenerational  baby and toddler group. The residents have the opportunity to play, sing and read stories with team members and members of the local community’s children.

Beautiful bouquets

Our homes had a fantastic time joining members of the Wallace Collection for an amazing sensory session.

During the live virtual experience, our residents explored one of the museum’s most beautiful Dutch flower paintings and learnt new drawing techniques.

We cannot wait to put our creative skills to a test and produce beautiful paintings of our own.

Everyone enjoyed the lovely talk, we all had lots of fun and it’s given us plenty of ideas.
