Activities at Sherwood Lodge Care Home

Our Activities Coordinator is constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in. We have regular outings in the mini bus to nearby places of interest including local garden centres and parks as well as musicians and entertainers. We also hold bingo evenings which are helped out by our residents families. We also have a local pub nearby which the residents enjoy visiting from time to time for a spot of lunch or sitting in the gardens in the summer time. We try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests as best is possible. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Emma Powers

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Emma Powers; I am the Activities Coordinator here at Sherwood Lodge.

I have worked in the care sector for over two decades; prior to this I was a soldier in the UK Armed Forces where I gained exceptional powers of communication, organisation and teamwork. During my time as a carer I have gained my NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care and have been employed as a Senior Carer. I chose to switch professional roles to activities as I find supporting both residential and dementia residents very rewarding.

I have been employed within Barchester for over three years, I love working for this company and am really excited to continue to care for all of its residents and their families.

Life at Sherwood Lodge Care Home

Resident accepts community gift

Here at Sherwood Lodge we enjoy good links with our community and we are very happy to have Natalie who has kindly donated arts and crafts card making kits to the home that she no longer needed to help with our sensory activities in the home.

Thank you Natalie for your kind contribution and Eleanor was delighted to receive these and can’t wait to start making our Valentine’s cards.

15-years long service celebrated

A Housekeeping Assistant at Sherwood Lodge in Preston has received a prestigious 15 Year Service Award in celebration of working at Barchester Healthcare for 15 years.

Susan, now domestic assistant, part of the housekeeping team, started at Barchester in 2009 and has worked with residents and their relatives to ensure that their needs have been met over the years.

Tracey Lyons, General Manager of Sherwood Lodge said: “We’re delighted to be celebrating 15 years of loyal service with Susan. She has demonstrated her dedication and loyalty to this home and its residents year after year. I speak for all of us here at Sherwood Lodge when I say that I’m looking forward to many more years of working with Sherwood Lodge!”

Century plus one celebrations at Sherwood Lodge

Celebrations have been in full swing at Sherwood Lodge, as one of its residents reaches her a centenary plus one in style. Sherwood Lodge was joined by staff, relatives, friends and other residents for her birthday. A champagne reception was held at the home and guests enjoyed a special birthday cake made by the home’s chef Nanaki.

Marie was born in 1923. In this year, the airfield beacons replaced bonfires to guide flying pilots, and Mr Birdseye invented his frozen food. Marie is enjoying a new chapter of her life with her husband at Sherwood lodge.

A trip to the local pub

On a wet and windy day, Residents of Sherwood Lodge decided that they would like to go to the pub – we were only too delighted to grant their wish as colleagues rallied around to make this happen.

Everyone had a fun filled afternoon where they enjoy a glass of their favourite tipple, chatting with locals in the pub.  Whilst there they were also lucky to meet a beautiful one-week old baby prompting residents to reminiscence about times gone by.
