Activities at South Grange Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Life at South Grange Care Home

Steeple Church Easter Service

Residents had a lovely afternoon welcoming back the Steeple Church, Dundee who spent the afternoon providing hymns for us to sing and conducting a lovely church service for Easter.

The church also provided the live music to sing with the hymns. We had a guitarist, recorder player and a violinist. This makes the residents feel like they are in an actual church and brings a fantastic atmosphere to the room.

Minister Douglas not only delivered our beautiful readings and prayers for the service but also paid a visit to individuals in their rooms who couldn’t be there for the service.  Resident Frances, who attended the Steeple Church and choir before moving into South Grange, said “it was so nice to see some old friends from the church again and be able to chat to them after the service”.

Nutrition & Hydration Week

Our residents and staff took part in this year’s Nutrition and Hydration Week.

Throughout the week, we focused on fun-filled educational activities on the value of food and drink in maintaining health and wellbeing, sensory and tasting sessions.

We started the week off by making Knickerbocker Glory’s with our own twist. We used fresh fruit such as strawberries, bananas and raspberries, not forgetting the sauce, wafer and sprinkles for decoration too. Everyone agreed they looked amazing but tasted even better.

The fun didn’t stop there, during the week we had a variety of fruit platters, cheese boards and smoothie making which everyone was delighted with. Alongside a discussion of what our favourite meal is.

To end the week we had a morning of tasting a variety of teas. We had flavours such as peppermint, English breakfast, lemon & ginger, green and strawberry & raspberry. This wasn’t to everyone’s liking but we all had a go to give our verdict on which was the best one. In the end everyone agreed a good old Tetley’s tea bag did the job.

World Book Day

Residents were over the moon to have another visit from our little friends from the Grange Nursery. The children were happy to share the delicious biscuits they had been making for us and enjoyed spending world book day reading their favourite book ‘why is there an elephant in my fridge’.

The children had great fun using our elephant props that everyone helped make in previous weeks. Residents chatted about how grateful they were to see all their infectious smiles regularly and the happiness that the children bring.

A fond farewell after 30-years

After more than 20 years of continuous service at South Grange much-loved Charge Nurse, Catherine Pasane has decided to retire.

Staff and residents at the home sent Catherine off in style with a tea party and a special cake specially made by our head chef Bernard. Everyone at the home has very fond memories of Catherine and she will be sadly missed.

Catherine said: “South Grange is like a family to me and though I’m looking forward to retirement, I’m really going to miss everyone here so much! My journey as a nurse has empowered me with broad experience of rendering holistic, high standard, person centred care to our residents valued by both residents and their families.”

Mother's Day

Our home was beautifully decorated with fresh flowers and bunting in recognition of Mother’s Day and all the mothers in our home.

Housekeeping team helped our residents and families to celebrate Mother’s day, they arranged a cream tea afternoon which all families and friends who were visiting were very welcome to join.

Big thanks to our chef for the variety of yummy sweet and savoury treats

Our residents received beautiful flower bouquets, gifts and cards from their families which made their day.

There were smiles all around the home with everybody celebrating this wonderful day.

Coffee Shop Outing

The activity staff accompanied three of our ladies to a local coffee shop in Monifieth, Bowman’s Coffee House. We had a selection of cakes which was washed down with a delicious cup of tea/coffee. We all agreed the staff were lovely but the cakes were even better.

We finished our afternoon off with a wander along the high street and went window shopping.

Resident Barbara said ‘this was a lovely afternoon and a nice early birthday treat for me. I haven’t been out window shopping for almost two years’.
