Activities at South Grange Care Home
Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.
Gillian Conway
Gill has worked for South Grange since 1996. Gill's role in the home is ensuring our residents enjoy a fulfilling quality of life. The programme that Gill and her colleagues provide is stimulating, creative and varied.
Gill enjoys the time she spends with residents and families. The team welcomes any suggestions made by residents and family members in relation to activities.

Life at South Grange Care Home
Virtual trip to Cornish Seal Sanctuary
A big thank you to the Cornish Seal Sanctuary for the fantastic live virtual event today!
Residents across our services loved seeing the seals up close and learning about the incredible work the sanctuary does to protect them and other wildlife in Cornwall as well.
Everyone truly enjoyed the experience.
National Housekeeping week
This week we are celebrating National Housekeeping Week and recognizing the hard work and dedication of our wonderful Housekeeping Team. Christine, our Head Housekeeper and her team keep our home lovely and our laundry smelling clean and fresh. Residents enjoyed sitting down with some of the house keeping team in the cafe for a cuppa and some lovely cakes as a thank you for all their hard work!
Bus Outings
Residents have been enjoying our weekly bus trips to different locations. Ged and Eleanore had a trip to McDonald’s for a lunch treat after a spot of shopping, it was well deserved.
Annie and Peggy had a lovely walk over to our local Dobbie’s garden centre for a look around the beautiful flowers before hitting the café for a spot of lunch and a coffee.
Whilst Joyce assisted the activity team with their monthly shop at B&M, of course Joyce was rewarded with a coffee and cake for her hard work.
Dementia Friendly Art Club
Residents and staff have been enjoying attending our local Dementia friendly art club which is ran by a charity called Crossreach, Heart for Art. They provide everything you would need from paints, colouring pencils, pictures to paint and even a skilled artist, Fiona who is always on hand to give advice or a helping hand if needed.
Our residents enjoy the freedom to paint their own master pieces whilst others would rather colour/paint in a picture. We always have a lovely afternoon chatting to others from our local community who also benefit from this amazing group!
Barchester's Big Bingo Bonanza
Staff and residents from South Grange, joined fellow keen dabbers from over 250 Barchester care homes and hospitals across the whole of the UK, including Wales, Scotland, Jersey and the Isle of Wight, to compete in one of the biggest games of bingo Barchester has ever seen!
Barchester’s Big Bingo Bonanza took place on 28th May 2024 when South Grange got super competitive and took on its sister homes from all over the country to find out which Barchester home or hospital was a dab hand at bingo. It was eyes down for a full house as the homes battled it out to find out who would prevail.
General Manager, Catherine said: “We’ve got some real bingo fanatics at our home, we are very competitive - our residents love taking part in anything where winning is involved, you could hear a pin drop in here when we were all playing.”
Resident, Margaret said: “It has been such a fun afternoon, I always love a game of bingo. It was wonderful to see everyone in all the other homes joining in. I really enjoyed getting together with my fellow residents to take on the other homes – it is amazing how competitive everyone gets!”
Garden Party and BBQ fun
We kicked off the day by indulging in a BBQ feast for lunch which was especially prepared by our Head Chef, Bernard. The delicious spread included chicken thighs, burgers, salad, potatoes and coleslaw and which was followed by ice cream sundaes for dessert. Everyone agreed the food was delicious!
Residents, families, friends and staff were then all invited to our garden party. Unfortunately the weather wasn't on our side but our round room was beautifully decorated for our tropical themed party in the afternoon. We had a handmade parrot (by Sam) which perched upon our bar whilst we served refreshing mocktails
Everyone wore Hawaiian garlands for the occasion and were entertained by the talented Gus Zee who provided an afternoon of live music which had everyone clapping, singing and dancing along.
