Activities at South Grange Care Home
Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Life at South Grange Care Home
A visit from the local nursery Children
Residents enjoyed spending the morning with our local nursery children who visit on a regular basis. The children picked activities for everyone to join in, this week the children wanted to play with the skittles before having the best time with our parachute. The games were full of smiles and laughter all around as we all worked together to keep the items on the parachute and waving the parachute up and down for the children to collect the toys underneath.
Elizabeth Taylor’s Birthday
Residents spent the afternoon at our very own movie theatre watching National Velvet. Everyone enjoyed watching Elizabeth Taylor, who was one of the most popular stars of Hollywood cinema in the 50s and became the highest paid movie star in the 1960s. Residents enjoyed selection of snacks and refreshments during the moving and discussed some of her famous movies- Cleopatra, A Place in the Sun and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof - and reminisced about the 50s and 60s.
Our mini bus trip to Arbroath
Residents enjoyed visiting Arbroath, our first of many tours around Angus.
During the tour residents visited popular destinations such as the beautiful waterfront and harbour, Arbroath Abbey, Signal Tower museum, Arbroath war memorial and Gayfield park. Residents spent time sharing memories of their previous visits to the town over refreshments and delicious local cakes.
Happy Birthday Elizabeth!
We have recently celebrated a birthday at South Grange,
Elizabeth recently celebrated her birthday, receiving lots of gifts and cards followed with an afternoon spending time with her son who travelled from England and other family members. Elizabeth received two cakes, one freshly baked from our chef and a delicious cake from family where they enjoyed with refreshments in our café.
Pancake Day
Residents at South Grange celebrated pancake day by flipping and turning pancakes all morning in preparation for their annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Day celebrations. The residents spent the afternoon eating their delicious treats and using a variety of toppings to make them more tasty. Toppings included chocolate spread, jam, marshmallows, cream and strawberry sauce to name a few! Everyone confirmed they fulfilled their sweet tooth!
Cross cultural links
We had a wonderful afternoon listening to the boys from Gateshead Jewish School who not only sang to us, but also explained which festival each song belonged to and what those festivals were all about. Residents were absolutely amazed at the way the youngsters could sing totally ‘a capella’ and harmonise effortlessly.
