Activities at South Grange Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Real Bread Week

We marked the annual, international celebration of real bread and the people who make it.

Over the course of the week, overseen by our Head Chef, we kneaded, proven and baked a selection of different breads from granary loaves and floury batches, and our residents thoroughly enjoyed it.

Apart from tasting the delicious breads, our residents learnt interesting facts about the history of bread and watched videos about the magic of bread making.

We all had a wonderful time.

Virtual coffee experience

We had a fabulous time joining NESCAFÉ’s virtual coffee experience.

We were able to look into how they sustainably farm their coffee beans, as well as, to have a virtual tour of one of their factories all from the comfort of our home.

To make things even more interesting, our residents had the chance to test their knowledge with an interactive quiz, and to the delight of all to taste the signature Sweet Cinnamon Shaken Iced Coffee cocktail.

National Nest box week

We were excited to take part in this year’s National Nestbox week – an initiative making more homes for Britain’s birds since 1997.

Our residents had fun making and learning how to decorate nest boxes. We then put up the nest boxes in our local area to promote the conversation of breeding birds and wildlife. Garden songbirds can struggle to find suitable nesting holes and cavities if there are a lack of mature trees in the area.

We all had a great time and can’t wait to see more birds in our garden.

Valentine treats

Residents in South Grange had a lovely Valentine’s day, reminiscing about how they celebrated Valentine’s day with their loved ones. They were treated to valentine platters made by our chef Bernard along with a glass of prosecco. They watched Titanic the movie and lost themselves in the romantic lives of Rose and Jack.

Valentine's with Veg for Life

We had a lovely time joining Chef Alex Connell from Vegetarian for Life for a Valentine’s-inspired virtual cookery demonstration.  Chef Alex created some delicious Valentine’s Day-inspired vegetarian desserts, which our residents had the opportunity to try too.

First, our residents sampled a wonderful sticky toffee pudding, which was absolutely heavenly. Then they tried hazelnut truffles which were a huge hit and finally they were treated to a chocolate orange cake which everyone adored.

Oriental travels

Chinese sweet and sour, chicken curry were some of the delicacies that our residents enjoyed for Chinese New Year. Our residents took part in an oriental themed quiz, and also enjoyed finding out which animal sign which they were born under. A documentary was shown of how the Great Wall of China was built which they found  very interesting and gave the residents plenty to discuss.
