Activities at South Grange Care Home
Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.
Gillian Conway
Gill has worked for South Grange since 1996. Gill's role in the home is ensuring our residents enjoy a fulfilling quality of life. The programme that Gill and her colleagues provide is stimulating, creative and varied.
Gill enjoys the time she spends with residents and families. The team welcomes any suggestions made by residents and family members in relation to activities.

Life at South Grange Care Home
Old Blue Eyes
Residents and staff took part in a quiz and sing-a-along to remember Old Blue Eyes. The afternoon went very well as Frank Sinatra seemed to be a lot of the ladies heart throb. They knew all his songs and did well in the quiz!
Dancing Queen's at South Grange
South Grange residents and staff had a very lively afternoon celebrating Abba winning the Eurovision in 1974 with the song Waterloo. Residents and staff answered questions all relating to Abba and we got them all right. We all sang along on the karaoke to Abba songs and other favourites with everyone having a lovely time.
Discovering the Astor's
Our residents came together to enjoy an exciting virtual talk courtesy of the team at National Trust Talks Service. The illustrated talk took us closer to one of Cliveden’s most famous families, the Astors. Our residents were able to discover what motivated William Waldorf Astor, America’s richest man, to purchase Cliveden in 1893 and how the estate became the centre of high society in the 1920 s and 30 s thanks to his son Waldorf and daughter in law Nancy Astor.
Walk through a landscape
We had a lovely time joining Holly and Marie-Therese from the Wallace Collection, for a virtual introduction to the Collection, followed by a sensory exploratory walk through one of the museum’s most famous landscape paintings. The Collection ranges from Old Master paintings to 18th century French furniture, arms and armour. We all had a wonderful time and cannot wait to put our creative skills to a test and paint some landscapes in the upcoming days.
Mother's Day
Our home was beautifully decorated with fresh flowers and bunting in recognition of Mother’s Day and all the mothers in our home.
During the day, we arranged individual flowers for our female residents, and we enjoyed discussions about the role of mothers over a cup of tea.
Our residents got creative and made their own flower bouquets and flower frames, as they enjoyed a variety of yummy sweet and savoury treats. There were smiles all around the home.
World Poetry Day
Here at South Grange our residents were keen to get involved in World Poetry Day.
Throughout the day, we had interesting discussions about poets and we hosted a Poetry Club where our residents listen to famous people reading poems and read aloud passages from their own favourite poems.
World Poetry Day is a fantastic excuse for us all to spend the day with our noses in our much-loved poetry books.
It was a great day for everyone, especially for the keen poets at the home.
