Activities at South Grange Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Life at South Grange Care Home

National Jumper Day

South Grange had a lovely afternoon as residents and staff put on a fine display with their festive jumpers and t-shirts as part of Save the Children, National Jumper Day.  There was a colourful display!

Resident, Pat was chosen by General Manager, Fiona Torrie to receive 1st prize for being the most festive resident and in return Pat chose Christine, Hospitality to win for the homes staff team.

Creative workshop

We all had a wonderful time joining Jennifer Owen - founder of Goldfinch Floral Studio for a creative floral bauble workshop.

Jennifer transported our residents to the out of the ordinary world of flowers and crafts and demonstrated how to create stunning hand-made baubles filled with dried flowers and grasses.

Our residents enjoyed filling and decorating their own glass baubles and their unique creations will be displayed at the home for everyone to enjoy.

Blenheim Christmas lights

We experienced the Christmas extravaganza of Blenheim Palace with Social Historian - Antonia Keaney, who took us on a recorded tour around the Christmas sights at the palace this year.

Elf Day

Residents spent the morning looking for our little elves around their home followed by finding our human elves to collect their prize. Residents enjoyed decorating ginger bread cookies followed by Elf the movie in the afternoon.

St Andrews Day

Today we celebrated the national day of Scotland and their patron Saint Andrew.

We marked the day with a celebrations of the Scottish culture – with traditional Scottish dances, music, food and drinks.

Our residents also learnt interesting facts about St Andrew, who surprisingly was not Scottish.

We hosted a quiz afternoon with 35 questions about Scotland and watched some highland dancing virtually.

It was a lovely day, enjoyed by all.

Winston Churchill's love affair with Blenheim Palace

Our residents were thrilled to join Antonia Keaney - Blenheim Palace’s Historian for an intriguing virtual talk on Winston Churchill.

The private resources of Blenheim Palace were drawn upon to afford very new and refreshing insights into this remarkable man. During the talk Antonia shared fascinating information about the breadth of talent, achievement and personality of the "Greatest Briton": soldier, politician, statesman, painter, writer, orator, family man - and bricklayer!

We all had a wonderful time and enjoyed learning more about UK’s former Prime Minister.
