Activities at South Grange Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Life at South Grange Care Home

Nutrition and Hydration Week

South Grange care home in Monifieth celebrated Nutrition and Hydration Week (14th – 20th March) with lots of yummy, wholesome food, thirst quenching beverages and some interesting activities along the way.  Nutrition and Hydration Week aims to highlight, promote and celebrate improvements in the provision of nutrition and hydration locally, nationally and globally.

At Barchester, each resident’s specific dietary requirements, likes and dislikes are individually catered for at all our homes. Meals are prepared to each resident’s tastes and all staff understand the importance of good nutrition and hydration for all our residents and patients’ wellbeing.

Spring sunshine

Residents at South Grange enjoyed spending yesterday afternoon in the garden catching some sun and planning future events for the garden as the sun has appeared. Residents also enjoyed some tea, coffee and some nice sweet treats.

My name is not Wigs

We had a lovely time joining Angela Cobbin for a theatre-inspired virtual talk about her book ‘My Name is Not Wigs’.  ‘My Name Is Not Wigs’ is the ultimate read for fans of witty behind-the-curtains memoirs, especially those with a penchant for the bright lights of stage and screen: tears and accolades aplenty!

Angela shared interesting facts with our residents about her book, her life and her experiences as a wig creator in London’s West End in celebration of World Theatre Day.

Chimes

Residents enjoyed our music themed afternoon using hand chimes,  working together with the homes activities coordinators leading residents performed some of their favourite tunes such as the Sky boat song and many more.  Residents enjoyed the afternoon with some refreshments and a range of sweet treats and sharing details of their favourite songs and what it means to them.

Come dine with me

Residents, Pat and Thelma enjoyed our ‘Dining with a friend’ lunch. They enjoyed a 3 course meal while getting to know each other more in our café with views of the garden. They both thought this was a lovely experience in a different setting and having time both reminiscing of their favourite memories.

Knitting circle

The ladies of South Grange have had a wonderful afternoon as they joined together for their popular ‘knitting circle’, some of those participating also brought out the paint to show their creative sides and some even managed to get more paint on themselves than the paper!  There was a lot of chatting and laughter, as the ladies took up their needles and continued with knitting baby blankets. This is a popular group activity here at the home.
