Activities at South Grange Care Home
Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.
Gillian Conway
Gill has worked for South Grange since 1996. Gill's role in the home is ensuring our residents enjoy a fulfilling quality of life. The programme that Gill and her colleagues provide is stimulating, creative and varied.
Gill enjoys the time she spends with residents and families. The team welcomes any suggestions made by residents and family members in relation to activities.

Life at South Grange Care Home
Cake decorating afternoon
Residents enjoyed learning new decorating techniques once they had assembled their own biscuits from scratch. Residents chose the filling and colours to create their delicious masterpieces.
Celebrating different cultures
South grange invited their residents to get to know all about the different nationalities and culture of their staff. Every Wednesday in the month of October we will celebrate Nationality day. Romania and Sri Lanka were our next two countries that we visited with the help of Daniela (housekeeping assistant) and Deepasika (care assistant), who spoke about their home countries, their cultures and foods from Romania and Sri Lanka.
They even treated us to some of the music and dance. Our residents really enjoyed this afternoon finding out all about Romania and Sri Lanka which are two beautiful countries
Virtual trip to South Africa
South grange invited their residents to get to know all about the different nationalities and culture of their staff. Every Wednesday in the month of October we will celebrate Nationality day. South Africa was our first country we visited with the help of our Change nurse Catherine, who spoke about her home, her culture and food from South Africa. She even treated us to some of the music and dance. Our residents really enjoyed this afternoon finding out all about South Africa
Thanks to Catherine. As the weeks go by we will keep you up to date on our different nationalities.
Royal Botanic Garden
Our homes enjoyed a wonderful virtual tour of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh with Community Engagement Manager, Charlotte Walker, and Botanic Cottage Operations Co-ordinator, Laura Gallagher.
The residents were thrilled to learn more about the history of the beautiful Garden, which is now a home to an impressive plant collection from around the world.
Charlotte and Laura also gave a demonstration of making fresh herbal tea and were happy to answer our questions. The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all who joined.
Macmillan Coffee Morning
Residents enjoyed our Macmillian coffee morning raising money while spending time with friends, staff and relatives and also joining in our tombola. Head chef, Bernard, had baked lots of lovely cakes, biscuits and pastries for everyone to sample and for guests to buy to take home.
Remembering the Queen
Residents at South Grange were honoured to watch the Her Majesty the Queens funeral along with the rest of the country, and to reminiscence about her life over delicious cakes and refreshments especially created by our chef, Bernard and his team. It was a very emotional day for everyone.
