Activities at South Grange Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Life at South Grange Care Home

International Women's Day

Happy International Women’s Day! In recognition of the day, we commemorated the wonderful achievements of women around the world and celebrated with themed activates and colourful flowers.

Our residents took part in discussions about the role of many different women who have shaped history from Cleopatra and Boudica to Florence Nightingale and Marie Curie right through to the Queen and Mrs Thatcher.

In the afternoon, they got involved in a themed quiz and prepared handmade cards to say thank you to the wonderful women in their lives.

Easter crafts

With Easter just around the corner, Residents have been enjoying their popular arts and crafts sessions to begin to create Easter cards to send to their loved ones.  There was plenty of gluing, drawing and debating but the end results were fantastic and very colourful. We’ve lots planned to keep our residents stimulated over the Easter period.

Home donate to Ukrainian Baby Box Appeal

Staff and residents donated to their local Baby Box Appeal for Ukraine with the local charity collecting the items generously donated by the home.  The biggest donation from was our friendship scarf that our residents spent lots of time making for National Friendship Day.

Residents had a group discussion of things we could donate and were more than happy to donate their much loved knitting that they had done for our friendship scarf  to babies and young children as residents hoped they could pass on a little bit of love and hope to those who need it the most at this time.

Inside Cliveden

We were treated to an amazing live virtual talk and a tour of Cliveden, hosted by the house and chapel guides from the National Trust Talks Service.

The volunteers kindly gave us a tour around the famous house taking an in-depth look at Cliveden’s many stories from its 350 year history, from devilish dukes to scandalous headlines and boundary-breaking garden designs to political notoriety.

Starting with the Duke of Buckingham who built the first house in 1666, our residents met the key owners who helped shape the house and its gardens including the Orkney, Sutherland and Astor families.

The talk was accompanied by an illustrated presentation which brought to life these individuals and showed how their influence at Cliveden still continues today.

St David's Day celebrations

Celebrations were under way as we marked St David’s Day today to acknowledge the patron saint of Wales.  To be in line with Welsh traditions, we decorated our home with flags, daffodils and leeks, and some of our residents and staff were dressed in Welsh costumes.  We were treated to traditional Welsh food and drinks

Flippin' fun Pancake Day

The staff and residents at South Grange care home in Monifieth have been flipping and turning pancakes all morning in preparation for their annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Day celebrations.South Grange has marked this year’s Pancake Day with a selection of different pancake toppings on our trolley such as a selection of fruit and sweet toppings giving plenty of choice.

Thelma Miller, a resident at South Grange commented: “I have really enjoyed the selection of choice for the pancakes, it is almost impossible to pick.”  Our varied life enrichment programme keeps residents active, and provides a daily choice of engaging physical, mental and spiritual activities tailored to residents’ interests and abilities.
