Activities at South Grange Care Home

Here at South Grange we got into the spooky Halloween spirit of things by creating an autumnal display with painted and carved pumpkins, flowers and wreaths.

We hosted a fun-filled party in the afternoon with delicious Halloween inspired treats, mocktails and themed music.

Some of our residents preferred to paint and decorate pumpkins and to dress up for the occasion, others got involved in themed quizzes and games, and enjoyed watching Halloween films.

We all had a spooktacular time.

We had a lovely time joining Chef Alex Connell from Vegetarian for Life for a Halloween-inspired virtual cooking demo.

Alex demonstrated how to prepare a few themed dishes, such as root vegetable tagine, roasted butternut squash mac-n-cheese, chocolate pots with piped biscuits and flapjacks.

Our residents were delighted to be a part of this lovely virtual culinary session by tasting the vegetarian dishes from the comfort of our home.

A Hospitality Supervisor at South Grange in Monifieth has received a prestigious 30 Year Service Award in celebration of working at Barchester Healthcare for 30 years.

Christine Penman, now Hospitality Supervisor, started at Barchester in October 1991 and has worked with residents and their relatives to ensure that their needs have been met over the years.

Jane McFarlane, Employee Services Director at Barchester said: “I’m always pleased to hear stories about the long service of Barchester staff and am delighted Christine has achieved this milestone. It is dedication like this that ensures our residents are provided with a happy place to live.”

South Grange joined in with celebrating Wear It Pink Day during Breast Cancer Awareness Month along with hundreds of thousands of other people across the UK.

Wear It Pink is a Breast Cancer awareness campaign which has raised alot for breast cancer since the campaign started in 2002. Schools, businesses and families get together to eat, wear and make something pink in order to raise money for breast cancer.

The residents tucked into their favourite pink treats made by the home’s chef with help from staff and residents! Everyone in the home, including the carers all added something pink to their outfits to celebrate the day

Residents at South Grange have welcomed some new company in the form of a robotic pet who they have fondly named, Grainger. The home has been having lots of sensory sessions with the amazing robotic pet.

Colleagues have found Grainger to be quite the hit with Residents, The robots interact with the Residents and react to different touch or movements. The cats purr and vibrate which makes them almost seem alive!  

Residents who have sensory impairments think they are fantastic.

 South Grange care home, in Monifieth, has thrown an afternoon tea party for staff and residents to celebrate 30 years of serving the local community. 

Staff and residents commemorated this special occasion with a virtual concert and tea party. We also welcomed our new General Manager Fiona Torrie and presented her with a bouquet of flowers to welcome her. Another presentation was made to our Hospitality Supervisor Christine Penman for her 30 years’ long service award.  

South Grange has built up excellent reputations within its local communities. The home regularly holds events and activities for its residents and surrounding neighbours. The building was originally constructed in 1991, it was formerly an old farm, and the room which was used as the mill was a listed part of the building and is now knowing as the round room to the residents and the staff this room is used daily for visitor’s events and activities

General Manager, Fiona Torrie said: “It is important to recognise the hard work of our staff here at South Grange.  For the past 30 years, we have provided a caring home for our residents as well as the best possible environment for our staff.  Today not only enables us to celebrate their hard work, but it's also an opportunity to thank the residents, their relatives and friends who have made South Grange such a loving home.”
