Activities at Southerndown Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Activities Co-ordinator

I have worked at Southerndown since 2013. I enjoy providing various activities for our residents with the team, such as gardening groups, trips out in the mini bus around the Cotswolds, quiz days and entertainment performances. Amongst the many things we enjoy doing, part of my role within the home is to ensure all residents are provided the purpose in life to fulfil day to day stimulation, whether that be together, or creating individual activity to those that prefer.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Southerndown Care Home

Wishing Tree to KFC

After the launch of our Wish Tree last week, it was time to make our first wish come true! Mary, one of our wonderful residents, wished to visit KFC and Tesco.

The trip was a huge success, bringing back many happy memories for Mary, who used to enjoy this outing weekly.

The joyful laughter and positive excitement were a joy to behold.

We look forward to making more wishes come true and spreading happiness!

Our Support For Mental Health Week

As its mental health week our wonderful residents have been discussing how can we boost our positive thoughts and how to help others.

Here are some great quotes that our residents came up with and would like to share to bring a smile to everyone ones faces

A visit to the Oxford Bus Museum

Dementia action week …..

Today we had a wonderful visit to the Oxford Bus Museum and with National Museum Day coming up it was a fab time to visit.

It was heart warming to see how the old buses brought back fond memories of our younger days, when most families didn't have cars and relied on public transport.

These moments of reminiscing were truly special, sparking conversations and smiles all around.

We would like to say a big thank you to the Oxford Bus Museum for hosting us and making this trip so memorable!

Celebrating 200 Years of Cadburys

Southerndown have teamed up with Cadbury's as they celebrate their 200th Anniversary, and it also coincides with Dementia action week.

So we have been fortunate enough to have joined in with a live virtual event with Cadbury's today talking all things chocolate.

We also received a reminiscence chocolate pack which marked the 200th anniversary of Cadbury's.

We thoroughly enjoyed all things Cadbury's this afternoon and the chocolate taste testing was simply divine

Launch of our new 'Wishing Tree'

Last week was a very special moment for us all at Southerndown as we launched the homes new 'Wishing Tree'.

Our new Resident Ambassador Sheila, officially opened the proceedings by cutting the ribbon before our lovely residents started to write up their individual wishes that we will now start to plan to fulfil in the home. We cant wait to get started and make dreams come true and thank you to everyone involved in making this happen.

International Nurses Day

Happy International Nurses Day!

Our RSM Arlene, and Deputy Manager Subra have been out and about celebrating all things nurses.
