Activities at Southerndown Care Home
Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.
Stacey Davies
I have worked at Southerndown since 2013. I enjoy providing various activities for our residents with the team, such as gardening groups, trips out in the mini bus around the Cotswolds, quiz days and entertainment performances. Amongst the many things we enjoy doing, part of my role within the home is to ensure all residents are provided the purpose in life to fulfil day to day stimulation, whether that be together, or creating individual activity to those that prefer.

Life at Southerndown Care Home
National Sausage Roll Day
National Sausage Roll Day at Southerndown Care Home! Today, we celebrated National Sausage Roll Day with a fantastic taste testing event. Our very talented Chef Andre led a fun sausage roll making session. We also tried our hand at making our own delicious sausage rolls. We all had such a good time because who doesn’t love a good sausage roll?
Queen's Coronation Anniversary
Southerndown marked the anniversary of the late Queen’s coronation by watching the film The Queen, and share resident memories of the seeing the historical moment live.
It was lovely to hear from one of our residents who had been at the coronation.
Bowling and Ice Creama
It was Bowling and Ice Creams on the cards today for us. Its so nice to be able to provide the space for residents to take part in fun and games. We offer a variety of different games every week along with going out to visit leisure centres and trips out
Girls Shopping Trip
As we continue to make wishes true following our new wishing tree in the home, this week Judy asked for a girls shopping trip to Marks and Spencers! The team headed over to the retail park in Banbury where a bit of retail therapy was in order, clothes, perfumes and a trip to the cafe to finish. We hope you had a lovely day Judy!
Cocktail Celebrations
We had a lovely afternoon celebrating National Cocktail Day here at Southerndown. Everybody got involved, with residents trying a number of homemade cocktails and mocktails prepared by our mixers, along with dancing and a Hawaiian themed party with lots of delicious treats.
Wishing Tree to KFC
After the launch of our Wish Tree last week, it was time to make our first wish come true! Mary, one of our wonderful residents, wished to visit KFC and Tesco.
The trip was a huge success, bringing back many happy memories for Mary, who used to enjoy this outing weekly.
The joyful laughter and positive excitement were a joy to behold.
We look forward to making more wishes come true and spreading happiness!
