Activities at Southerndown Care Home
Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.
Stacey Davies
I have worked at Southerndown since 2013. I enjoy providing various activities for our residents with the team, such as gardening groups, trips out in the mini bus around the Cotswolds, quiz days and entertainment performances. Amongst the many things we enjoy doing, part of my role within the home is to ensure all residents are provided the purpose in life to fulfil day to day stimulation, whether that be together, or creating individual activity to those that prefer.

Life at Southerndown Care Home
Always time for tea & cake
We can always make time for tea & cake wherever we go.We had a lovely Cotswold drive today followed by tea and cake at The Old Shed. It was great trip out and it was nice to see the scenery and also the spring lambs. Every week we make time for trips out as part of our life enrichment programme here at Southerndown.
Happy Easter from Southerndown
What a weekend we’ve had full of Easter fun and games.
Firstly we have had our fabulous Easter bonnet parade and I think we can agree we all look amazing
Then it was out in the wonderful British weather for our Easter egg hunt!
Happy Easter!!!
Strictly Come Sailing
We had our eagerly anticipated dance competition entry after several weeks of intense dancing. We were kindly joined by Lizzie from Sun-Raye dance classes who has been helping us with our competition entry. Residents chose to perform to the classic Rod Stewart song Sailing and dressed up for the occasion. Well done all!
Pub Lunch
For our mini bus outing this week we decided that a lads trip to the pub would be very welcome so we headed to one of our locals in Chipping Norton.
We enjoyed socialising and the food was fantastic as usual, and when in a Hook Norton pub what could be better that to have a couple of pints of the local favourite ‘a pint (or two) of Hooky Beer’
Needless to say we all thoroughly enjoyed the pub lunch and we are already busy planning our next pub lunch.
Nutrition and Hydration week
We have been celebration nutrition and hydration week here at Southerndown, and our favourite event of the week was the global tea party with all of our favourite treats.
We had some amazing Sundaes, tasty flapjack and some indulgent brownies. Not to mention the tempting fruit platter and also the chocolate and brownie smoothies!
We all really enjoyed the afternoon, and we had a wonderful time socialising with our families and friends.
A fantastic session with Cue Sun Rae Inclusive Dancing School
While the Strictly glitterball is back in its cupboard for the time being, staff at a Chipping Norton care home put on their dancing shoes and got their resident boogieng.
Cue Sun Rae Inclusive Dancing School hosted a session at Southerndown Care Home, teaching residents a variety of styles, from the waltz to the cha cha cha.
Such was the success of these sessions, that all the home's residents have agreed to sign up for the West Oxfordshire Open Inclusive Dance Championship set to take place in June.
Sun Rae, known for teaching older adults to dance, received a wave of enthusiasm among residents at Southerndown when it hosted classes at the home.
The initiative is not only about fun and recreation but also aids with reminiscence and mobility.
One of the dance teachers said: "What a fabulous way to spend the afternoon, we absolutely loved dancing with the residents – they’re such naturals.
"It was so lovely to get everyone moving, remembering dances from years gone by – it is amazing how the steps come back to you.
"Everyone enjoyed it so much that they all want to take part in our Inclusive Dance Championship in June, they can’t wait for our next session so they can work on their moves for the competition."
"They are very excited for the competition and can’t wait to take part."
