Activities at Southerndown Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Activities Co-ordinator

I have worked at Southerndown since 2013. I enjoy providing various activities for our residents with the team, such as gardening groups, trips out in the mini bus around the Cotswolds, quiz days and entertainment performances. Amongst the many things we enjoy doing, part of my role within the home is to ensure all residents are provided the purpose in life to fulfil day to day stimulation, whether that be together, or creating individual activity to those that prefer.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Southerndown Care Home

Decoupage workshop

Residents all gathered for a delightful decoupage workshop led by our activities coordinator Cathy, surrounded by vibrant paper and glue the workshop became a decorative haven. Cathy’s enthusiasm for arts and crafts filled everyone with enthusiasm transforming ordinary objects into personalised works of art.

Supporting our local community

We recently presented The Chippy Larder with a cheque for £175 to help them continue support in our local community. This was raised by Southerndown staff who completed a 10k sponsored walk. The Chippy Larder are a secular and non – judgemental service provider whose aim is to alleviate poverty in Chipping Norton and the surrounding areas

We visited their ‘pop up’ hub in the Guildhall and met with Rizvana and other wonderful volunteers, who were busy setting up the larder for that afternoon.

A Magical Visit to Blenheim Place

Visiting Blenheim palace during the festive period when its adorned in the Sleeping Beauty Theme is such an enchanting experience.

The grandeur of the palace, combined with the magical ambience created by the themed decorations transported us into a fairy tale world for Christmas. We always thoroughly enjoy the palace, especially at Christmas and we are so lucky its right on our door step.

A Visit to Warwickshire Christmas Tree Farm

We had our first festive mini bus trip this week to pick up a Christmas tree for our courtyard kindly discounted to us by Warwickshire Christmas Tree Farm. Thanks guys !!!

We enjoyed spending time at the farm, and I don’t think we have ever see so many Christmas trees.
