Activities at Spen Court Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Angela Blackburn

Head of Activities

My name is Angela and I am the Head Activities Coordinator here at Spen Court. I get so much satisfaction out of knowing I have made a difference to people’s days and have filled the home with a sense of community and happiness.

We feel it is important to build community connections and maintain our resident’s social interaction outside the care home.

We ensure we deliver a person-centered program of events and activities and build strong relationships with our residents, their families and friends.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Spen Court Care Home

Remembering the Queen

As we have come to the end of the Mourning period of our beloved Queen, all at Spen Court paid our respects by creating a collage of beautiful photos of the Queen throughout her life. We watched the funeral together, we shared tears and smiles throughout the day. We enjoyed tea and cake throughout the day

Spa treats

Residents at Spen Court care home enjoyed an afternoon of pampering as they enjoyed a visit from the hairdresser and some of the ladies were given a hand and nail therapy session. The team at the home were on hand to provide the hour long pamper session, with residents enjoying treats such as cakes and refreshments whilst being given manicures and hand treatments. There was even a cheeky glass of sherry or two!

Book Lovers Day

From the scent of an old first edition book, to a crisp, fresh book at the local supermarket, the very sight of a book can bring back delightful memories.

Reading as a child, enjoying the short stories, the long books and the ability to lose yourself in a story so powerful that at the end you already looking for the next book, we celebrated National Book Lovers Day in style!

Coffee and chat

We are very social here at Spen Court and can be often found sitting relaxing with our friends, enjoying conversations over a cup of tea and slice of home-made cake and talking about our favourite things from food, music, families, holidays – whatever takes our fancy!  Come along and enjoy a cup of tea with us!

Music through the ages

Our homes had a brilliant time with curator Sarah Deters as she took us on a virtual ‘Music Through the Ages’ tour of St Cecilia’s Hall: Concert Room and Music Museum.

Our residents were thrilled to discover weird and wonderful musical instruments, hear their unusual sounds, and find out how instruments have changed over the last 500 years.

The virtual live event explored the world-renown collection of musical instruments on display at St Cecilia’s Hall, Scotland’s oldest concert hall.

Resident celebrates landmark birthday

Celebrations have been in full swing at Spen Court as one of its residents reached her landmark 100th birthday in style. Edith was joined by staff, relatives, friends and other residents as she marked her special day of turning 100 in style. Team members gathered together to serenade a chorus of ‘Happy birthday’ and presented Edith with a special birthday cake made by the home’s chef.
