Activities at Station Court Care Home

Activities make up the most important part of all our days, and at Station Court we ensure there are a variety of social events that reflect the individual interests and capabilities of people we support. All group and individual activities are designed to not only mentally and physically stimulate the people we care for, but to enhance their life skills and feelings of purpose and self worth. All of our team are committed to supporting a full activities programme within the home.

Carly Chesney

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Carly and I am the homes Activities Coordinator.  I joined the home in 2011.  I am passionate about our enhancing our residents daily life and delivering a person centred life enrichment activity programme is very important to me to ensure that our residents continue to lead fulfilling lives doing things that they want to and enjoy. Our programme is varied from excursions out on the mini bus ensuring our residents are connected to their local community, hosting events here in the home, virtual events and themed days – no day is the same!

VE Day

We have a brilliant day commemorating V-E DAY! We joined a virtual concert for a sing along and dancing to much loved wartime hits. Residents reminisced on celebrations over the years after watching Churchill’s famous speech before taking part in a quiz, playing a famous quotes game and readings of V-E day poems with tea and cakes.

Oh we do like to be beside the seaside!

Residents opted for Fish and Chips for our takeaway day this month and so we all had a fun seaside themed day. We reminisced of beach days with photographs of local and far away beaches, bringing back fond memories. We joined a sing along to classic seaside songs and had a barrel of laughs playing beach games of beach ball, skittles, carnival challenges and parachute games. Before tucking into delicious fish and chips from local shop, Bait Box for lunch

Book corner with Henry Slator

We had a lovely time joining Henry Slator for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘Conversations at the Pond’.

Henry had an unusual writing journey, which many of our residents found inspiring, he underwent chemotherapy in early 2020, which allowed him to rediscover his light-hearted outlook on life by imagining conversations with creatures in and around his large garden pond and adding buckets of fun.

The entertaining Conversations at the Pond, with its mass of colourful illustrations, took our residents along his journey, they felt inspired, cheered and loved hearing all about Henry’s experiences.

A royal party

We had a ‘royally’ great day celebrating the queens 96th birthday.  Our ladies made delicious mini Victoria sponge cakes for everyone to enjoy. We then joined ‘Her Majesty’ in the lounge for a virtual tour of Buckingham Palace, we tested our knowledge on Queen Elizabeth in a group quiz and discussed the royal family and interesting facts before we watched the spectacular gun salute at Hyde Park.

Hoppy Easter

Staff at Station Court had great fun playing the Easter bunny delivering chocolate eggs to everyone on Easter Sunday! Followed up with making Easter bonnets ,taking part in an Easter service and having a delicious Easter roast. A great day was had by all. A huge thankyou to staff and customers at our 3 local co-op stores in Ashington who have donated eggs and Easter treats for our residents, we are over joyed with your generosity

Easter Cake Making

Ladies on memory lane had a wonderful afternoon making and decorating a delicious Easter show stopper cake. Lemon sponge with vanilla flavoured buttercream, topped with chocolate bunnies, eggs, edible flowers and mini carrots. It looked too good to eat … but we enjoyed that more than making it!
