Activities at Station Court Care Home

Activities make up the most important part of all our days, and at Station Court we ensure there are a variety of social events that reflect the individual interests and capabilities of people we support. All group and individual activities are designed to not only mentally and physically stimulate the people we care for, but to enhance their life skills and feelings of purpose and self worth. All of our team are committed to supporting a full activities programme within the home.

Carly Chesney

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Carly and I am the homes Activities Coordinator.  I joined the home in 2011.  I am passionate about our enhancing our residents daily life and delivering a person centred life enrichment activity programme is very important to me to ensure that our residents continue to lead fulfilling lives doing things that they want to and enjoy. Our programme is varied from excursions out on the mini bus ensuring our residents are connected to their local community, hosting events here in the home, virtual events and themed days – no day is the same!

Autumn wreaths

Residents had a wonderful afternoon creating Autumn wreaths to hang on their doors at our craft workshop.

Using acorns, cinnamon sticks, autumn coloured leaves and woodland animals. We think they all look fabulous!

Winter warmer show

Residents (and staff) had a fantastic time singing and dancing at Michael Stevens Winter warmer show, packed with those rock and roll hits and swinging sixties we all love to get us up on our feet dancing!

Blooming Haus

We were delighted to join Blooming Haus’s Christmas Wreath Making Masterclass, where Master Florist, Michal and his business partner - Michael showed us the best method to create beautiful festive wreaths.

Following the tips and ideas learnt during the amazing virtual experience, we were happy to put our skills to a test and to enter the #BarchesterChristmasWreaths competition.

We all had a wonderful time creating our festive wreath/s.

Thank you @bloominghaus for helping our residents flow into the true spirit of Noel.

English National Ballet

We celebrated Remembrance Day with English National Ballet Associate Dance Artist, Richard Bermange, who led a creative dance workshop for our residents followed by a special extract of Akram Khan’s work Dust, premiered in 2014 as part of ENB’s Lest We Forget programme, commemorating the First World War.

ENB company dancers, Erina Takahashi and James Streeter performed the extract and provided some insight into this moving work.

Our residents had a wonderful time as they listened, danced and were able to singalong to famous war time music performed by ENB Associate Musician, Matt Hartley-Stevens.

Landmark celebrations

Celebrations have been in full swing at Station Court Care Home as one of its residents reaches his 101ST in style.

Jacky was joined by his wife, staff, relatives and friends in the home as he celebrated a landmark birthday. A special birthday party was held at the home and everyone enjoyed dancing and singing as entertainer Michael Stevens performed. Jacky commented it was truly special as he had not been able to celebrate his birthday properly in 6 years and was wonderful to have all the family together and have a good sing and dance!

From the age of 14 Jacky started working at Netherton coilery pit before moving on to Ashington Pit. He began going to night school which got him the job he loved, as the local park keeper for Wansbeck council. Tending the gardens in Ashington, Newbiggin and Bedlington. He has always been a keen footballer and runner.

Cooking demo

We had a lovely time joining Chef Alex Connell from Vegetarian for Life for a Halloween-inspired virtual cooking demo.

Alex demonstrated how to prepare a few themed dishes, such as root vegetable tagine, roasted butternut squash mac-n-cheese, chocolate pots with piped biscuits and flapjacks.

Our residents were delighted to be a part of this lovely virtual culinary session by tasting the vegetarian dishes from the comfort of our home.
