Activities at Station Court Care Home

Activities make up the most important part of all our days, and at Station Court we ensure there are a variety of social events that reflect the individual interests and capabilities of people we support. All group and individual activities are designed to not only mentally and physically stimulate the people we care for, but to enhance their life skills and feelings of purpose and self worth. All of our team are committed to supporting a full activities programme within the home.

Carly Chesney

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Carly and I am the homes Activities Coordinator.  I joined the home in 2011.  I am passionate about our enhancing our residents daily life and delivering a person centred life enrichment activity programme is very important to me to ensure that our residents continue to lead fulfilling lives doing things that they want to and enjoy. Our programme is varied from excursions out on the mini bus ensuring our residents are connected to their local community, hosting events here in the home, virtual events and themed days – no day is the same!

Life at Station Court Care Home

Armed Forces Day

Residents and staff at Station Court Care Home in Ashington paid their respects to soldiers past and present on this past Armed Forces Day on Saturday 26 June 2021.

Armed Forces Day is a chance to show support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving troops to Service families, veterans and cadets. This year Station Court marked the occasion with a wonderful performance from Michael Stevens at their Armed forces party, residents made decorations and cakes to sell to staff in a bid to raise funds for the salvation army, which they will continue accepting donations until 31.7.21. Residents were then able to enjoy a spread of afternoon tea as they looked at memorabilia and war heroes from the home told stories about their past adventures.

WW2 virtual talk with Blenheim Palace

Ahead of Armed Forces Day, we were transported back in time for a World War II themed talk and tour of Blenheim Palace, hosted by Antonia Keaney, the Palace’s social historian and author.

Entitled ‘Evacuees and Espionage,’ Antonia’s wartime themed talk focused on how the Marlborough family, estate staff and the Palace itself played a full and energetic part in the war effort.

The talk and tour told the story of how the Palace prepared for the worst, survived the onslaught of 400 boys being evacuated to Blenheim and kept the secrets of MI5.

It was a lovely experience, enjoyed by all.

National Beer Day

Thankfully the Great British weather was on our side and brought our glorious sunshine for our opening of the ‘Station Arms’, our mock beer garden. Residents had a beer-illiant afternoon tasting and choosing different local ales and beers from our menu. Listening to Rock & Roll and the feel good 60s whilst having a beery good laugh!

National Italian Day

Residents had a fun morning of making Italian flags ready to decorate our garden, taking part in an Italian themed quiz and they thoroughly enjoyed a virtual screening of Italy’s air show, The favourite activity of the day however was dining Al Fresco and tucking into our Italian themed menu created by chef Terry Cox, washed with a glass of fine wine whilst listening to Italian Opera. A wonderful day was had by all!

Come on England!

Residents donned out our lounge in flags and banners whilst reminiscing of past games, they then enjoyed largers and nibbles while watching, cheering and waving our flags as England won their first match of the Euros! .. residents and staff then of course proudly and (loudly) chanted its coming home!

Residents enjoy tour of Hereford Cathedral

We had a lovely time joining the team from Hereford Cathedral for an exciting virtual session.

We enjoyed a glimpse of this spectacular building and its treasures in a series of short pre-recorded videos. From the stunning gardens which lead down to the River Wye, to the Mappa Mundi and Chained Library.

It was wonderful to learn more about the history and beauty of Hereford Cathedral.
