Activities at Station Court Care Home

Activities make up the most important part of all our days, and at Station Court we ensure there are a variety of social events that reflect the individual interests and capabilities of people we support. All group and individual activities are designed to not only mentally and physically stimulate the people we care for, but to enhance their life skills and feelings of purpose and self worth. All of our team are committed to supporting a full activities programme within the home.

Carly Chesney

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Carly and I am the homes Activities Coordinator.  I joined the home in 2011.  I am passionate about our enhancing our residents daily life and delivering a person centred life enrichment activity programme is very important to me to ensure that our residents continue to lead fulfilling lives doing things that they want to and enjoy. Our programme is varied from excursions out on the mini bus ensuring our residents are connected to their local community, hosting events here in the home, virtual events and themed days – no day is the same!

Autumn Sun

Some of our gentlemen made the most of the Autumn sun this month as we took a trip out on our mini bus along the coast to the beautiful town Amble, as they had requested in our recent resident meeting. They enjoyed reminiscing of fishing and car trips along the way, taking in the views of Amble harbour, and of course a firm favourite at Station Court .. fish and chips!

Harvest Festival

A huge thankyou to our staff and family members donating to our Harvest Festival collection. Wansbeck Valley, Food Bank where thrilled with the large donation that will sure to help many families a little. A great feeling supporting our local community!

Top tips for creative writing

We had a great time joining journalist and novelist, Mike Gayle, for an intriguing virtual interview, during which he shared top tips for creative writing with our residents and read passages from his latest book, All the Lonely People.

We were thrilled to find out about Mike’s background, to understand what led him to become a writer and his creative process.

It was a lovely talk, enjoyed by all, especially by our keen writers at the home.

Virtual cruise with Unilever

We had a lovely time joining Paul Hawkins and Lisa Richards from Unilever for an exciting Virtual Cruise experience.

Our residents were welcomed with mocktails as Lisa and Paul took them on a magical journey to 3 mystery destinations, which were uncovered after a few clues.

Paul demonstrated how to create a few of the local traditional dishes, which our residents had the opportunity to try too.

The event evoked lots of great memories and it was truly enjoyed by all.

World Heart Day

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Station Court care home in Ashington have been marking World Heart Day by taking part in a range of different activities to promote good heart health.

World Heart Day took place on Wednesday 29 September, the idea behind the day is to encourage people around the word to take part in activities to take charge of their heart health, and that of others. It is a global campaign by the World Heart Federation to unite people from all countries and backgrounds in the fight against cardio vascular disease.

The staff and residents got into the spirit of the day by learning the importance of simple changes we can all make to take small steps towards a healthy heart by listening to a virtual talk from The British Heart Foundation. Residents took part in a healthy heart quiz, attended a morning motivator exercise session, followed by tasty healthy snacks and a relaxation session.

Taco bout a party!

Residents at Station Court had so much fun celebrating Mexican Independence day!  Staff members dressed up for the event, residents wore their sombreros and we decorated our home with all thing Mexican inspired ready for an armchair trip to Mexico, including the Mayan ruins of Chechen Itza and Tulum, the beautiful coastline of Cancun and Xcaret and Mexico City itself.

We watched clips of the colourful Independence Day parades that take place all across Mexico and took part in our own ‘hat dance’. Residents had made games such as pin the tail on the donkey earlier in the week and after working up an appetite our Head chef treated us all to a Mexican inspired menu of Fajitas, Mexican lasagne and sides of Mexican rice, salads and of course nachos … finished with everybody’s new favourite chili chocolate cake. Everyone was ready for a siesta afterward!
