Activities at Station Court Care Home

Activities make up the most important part of all our days, and at Station Court we ensure there are a variety of social events that reflect the individual interests and capabilities of people we support. All group and individual activities are designed to not only mentally and physically stimulate the people we care for, but to enhance their life skills and feelings of purpose and self worth. All of our team are committed to supporting a full activities programme within the home.

Carly Chesney

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Carly and I am the homes Activities Coordinator.  I joined the home in 2011.  I am passionate about our enhancing our residents daily life and delivering a person centred life enrichment activity programme is very important to me to ensure that our residents continue to lead fulfilling lives doing things that they want to and enjoy. Our programme is varied from excursions out on the mini bus ensuring our residents are connected to their local community, hosting events here in the home, virtual events and themed days – no day is the same!

Life at Station Court Care Home

Come on England!

Residents donned out our lounge in flags and banners whilst reminiscing of past games, they then enjoyed largers and nibbles while watching, cheering and waving our flags as England won their first match of the Euros! .. residents and staff then of course proudly and (loudly) chanted its coming home!

Residents enjoy tour of Hereford Cathedral

We had a lovely time joining the team from Hereford Cathedral for an exciting virtual session.

We enjoyed a glimpse of this spectacular building and its treasures in a series of short pre-recorded videos. From the stunning gardens which lead down to the River Wye, to the Mappa Mundi and Chained Library.

It was wonderful to learn more about the history and beauty of Hereford Cathedral.

Floristry masterclass

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Station Court care home in were treated to an interactive virtual floristry masterclass courtesy of Master Florist, Michal Kowalski, from Blooming Haus.

Blooming Haus started with a small pop-up shop in Chelsea.  They have since blossomed spectacularly on to the floristry scene as ‘floral engineers’, carving themselves an outstanding reputation as one of the UK’s most innovative floral design studios. The company is the vision of Master Florist, Michal Kowalski and his business partner, Michael Dariane. The pair bring a completely fresh approach to floristry and their ambition to push the boundaries of traditional floristry has laid the foundations of Blooming Haus’ success to date.

Residents enjoy countryside trip

Staff and residents at Station Court care home in Ashington were celebrating being able to go on short excursions again as lockdown restrictions ease across the country.  Residents are now able to go on a short trip to outdoor spaces without having to isolate on their return.

Residents from Station Court have enjoyed several trips out to Rothbury, Alnwick moors, Tynemouth, St Mary’s lighthouse, Cresswell beach and South Beach throughout the month where they were able to enjoy the wonderful views Northumberland has to offer while eating fish and chips or a picnic and ice creams.

Ray Robson General Manager at Station Court commented: “It is absolutely wonderful to be able to take our residents out for trips again. We have all been waiting for this day and we are so thankful it is finally here. Our residents have enjoyed all sorts of different entertainment during lockdown but nothing beats some fresh air and a change of scenery to blow away the cobwebs.”

Vegetarian for Life

To celebrate National Vegetarian Week, staff and residents at Barchester’s Station Court care home in Ashington were treated to an interactive virtual cookery demo courtesy of chef, Alex Connell, from Vegetarian for Life.

Chef Alex whipped up some tasty, healthy vegetarian snacks in a live, interactive cookery demo.  Much to residents’ delight, Station Court head chef had prepared the same recipes so that residents could try all the dishes. Residents sampled delicious, light and summery veggie dishes including Borlotti bean and dill pate, Greek fritters with Tzatziki and Coronation 'chicken' pastries. All finished off with a sweet and simple but totally yummy banana bread.

Green Goddess joins residents

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Station Court care home in Ashington were treated to an armchair work out courtesy of the Green Goddess, Diana Moran, and Shackleton’s furniture company, followed by a mindfulness session led by Shackleton’s Emma Raybould.

Diana rose to fame as a glamorous fitness guru on BBC’s Breakfast Time in the 1980’s and has made an outstanding contribution to improving the health and wellbeing of people in the UK. She now brings that experience to Shackletons as their Health and Wellness Adviser.
