Activities at Station Court Care Home
Activities make up the most important part of all our days, and at Station Court we ensure there are a variety of social events that reflect the individual interests and capabilities of people we support. All group and individual activities are designed to not only mentally and physically stimulate the people we care for, but to enhance their life skills and feelings of purpose and self worth. All of our team are committed to supporting a full activities programme within the home.
Carly Chesney
Hi, my name is Carly and I am the homes Activities Coordinator. I joined the home in 2011. I am passionate about our enhancing our residents daily life and delivering a person centred life enrichment activity programme is very important to me to ensure that our residents continue to lead fulfilling lives doing things that they want to and enjoy. Our programme is varied from excursions out on the mini bus ensuring our residents are connected to their local community, hosting events here in the home, virtual events and themed days – no day is the same!

Life at Station Court Care Home
Everyone receives 1st dose of vaccine
All staff and residents at Barchester’s Station Court care home, in Ashington are all delighted to have received the first dose of their Covid-19 vaccinations, after what has been a very challenging year for everyone.
General Manager, Ray Robson said: “We’ve all been through such a difficult time and this feels like such a big step on the way to getting back to some normality. I am so proud of the team and how they have worked together and continue to do so and we are all so grateful to be prioritised to receive the vaccine first. Now that everyone in the home has had their first dose, we feel like we’ve started on the long road to recovery.”
Carly Chesney, Activities Coordinator at Station Court Care Home said: “There is such a sense of relief. We are all so pleased to have had the first dose of the vaccine. It will help to keep ourselves and our residents safe, It feels like we have made a first step back to normality.’’
Senior buddies
In these difficult times it is vital we keep in contact with others so at Station Court we have set up a new group - Senior buddies! This group is for writing letters to residents in other homes to help our residents promote connections with others within the community.
Residents enjoy Afternoon tea
Our ladies group recently enjoyed making flower centrepieces in china tea cups, before setting the tables with their best china and tasting their home-made delicious cream scones which had been made earlier in the day through their baking club. With a little help from the homes chef they also made pies, quiches and more tasty cakes and bakes so everyone could enjoy a traditional afternoon tea. Everyone is now looking forward to the next one!
Residents enjoy family visits
Residents are overjoyed at Station Court care home in Ashington, as Barchester Healthcare has implemented a visiting suite for residents to continue to spend time with their loved ones for the autumn and winter seasons in addition to the outdoor visiting that has been on offer for those able for many months.
Balancing resident wellbeing and safety is at the forefront of Barchester Healthcare’s thinking and they understand how important it is for residents and their family and friends to be able to spend time together in the safest way possible.
There has been much careful planning and preparation for this moment by Barchester Healthcare, who run Station Court care home. It was welcome news for their residents and family and friends.
Adding a little sparkle!
Residents got into the festive spirit at the beginning of the month decorating the homes Christmas tress - they have 12 in total!
Everyone enjoyed listening to Christmas songs, rocking around the tree dancing and delicious festive treats were served from the homes hospitality team and the masterpieces were created. The home looks wonderful, full of sparkle and glitter!
The home have a special remembrance tree this year to add memories and messages for their friends that they have lost during the past few heart-breaking months.
'Tis the season to be giving!
Everyone at Station Court has been overwhelmed with the community spirit and kindness shown to them throughout a challenging year for all and the delicious treats of mince pies and short bread from local Iceland customers, but two huge hampers for everyone to enjoy from generous neighbours. A big thank you from us all!
Staff too would like to give back something and are donating food packages to Wansbeck Food Valley Food bank as it is at times like these communities come together and help one another where we can – we are extremely proud to be from Ashington!
