Activities at Station Court Care Home

Activities make up the most important part of all our days, and at Station Court we ensure there are a variety of social events that reflect the individual interests and capabilities of people we support. All group and individual activities are designed to not only mentally and physically stimulate the people we care for, but to enhance their life skills and feelings of purpose and self worth. All of our team are committed to supporting a full activities programme within the home.

Carly Chesney

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Carly and I am the homes Activities Coordinator.  I joined the home in 2011.  I am passionate about our enhancing our residents daily life and delivering a person centred life enrichment activity programme is very important to me to ensure that our residents continue to lead fulfilling lives doing things that they want to and enjoy. Our programme is varied from excursions out on the mini bus ensuring our residents are connected to their local community, hosting events here in the home, virtual events and themed days – no day is the same!

Life at Station Court Care Home

Remembrance Sunday

This year may be different and Residents may not be marching down the street at the parade, placing their wreath on the cenotaph and coming together as usual as part of the community, but residents with the help of the homes housekeeper made beautiful crochet poppy necklaces and everyone wore them with pride.

As they joined the Queen at the annual televised Remembrance service, they applauded the veterans of Station Court and together still thought of those that shall not grow old, they still honoured the service and sacrifice they made, together they still remember them.

Ladies afternoon

Residents of Station Court loved adding a touch of autumn to their doors during their recent arts and crafts session.  Residents came together to make autumn wreaths dressed with pine cones, leaves, berries, woodland animals and some chose to add their initial too.

Postcards of Kindness

We have had postcards from all over the country! A lot of our residents have now gained pen pals who write often through this initiative. It is wonderful to read and look through leaflets posted of where people have been sparking many conversations and reminiscing! We are often sent little games and challenges too and as you can see we have a great giggle completing them! everyone looks forward to the postie coming! A big thank you to all who have sent postcards to us it really means a lot during these times

Century celebrations for Resident

Celebrations have been in full swing at Station Court Care Home, as one of its residents reaches her centenary in style.

Resident, Bet Smith and friends at the home went back to the 50s with all staff members dressed for the occasion, as music played from her favourite era and dancing at a socially distanced garden party. Everyone was overjoyed as she read out her telegram from the Queen in recognition of her landmark birthday.

When asked what the secret to long life is, the birthday girl, said: ‘’a big family, laughter and a tipple of baileys each night!’’  The staff at the home organised much to their relief for her relatives to visit safely adhering to social distancing guidelines to the delight of all.

Green Fingers

Our chief member of our gardening club has won Wansbeck in bloom twice and Northumbria in bloom! So he’s sure to show us a thing or too! We all loved enjoying the glorious sunshine planting seeds of strawberries, cucumbers, herbs and flowers ready for our green house.

Commemorating VE Day

On this day 75 years ago most of our residents remembered the joy of their parents, feeling happy waving their flags as young ones at street parties. Four veterans remember the fight - feeling grateful for surviving and mourning for those that didn’t’, they remember the wait to return home drinking tots of rum with their comrades and the utter relief of seeing their families safe.

Today staff dressed up 1940s style and we had our own ‘street’ party decorated with bunting residents made. We celebrated the end, thanked those who fought & remembered those we lost. We read out poems & memories, we sang, we toasted. We may have been socially distant but today we were all united!
