Activities at Station Court Care Home

Activities make up the most important part of all our days, and at Station Court we ensure there are a variety of social events that reflect the individual interests and capabilities of people we support. All group and individual activities are designed to not only mentally and physically stimulate the people we care for, but to enhance their life skills and feelings of purpose and self worth. All of our team are committed to supporting a full activities programme within the home.

Carly Chesney

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Carly and I am the homes Activities Coordinator.  I joined the home in 2011.  I am passionate about our enhancing our residents daily life and delivering a person centred life enrichment activity programme is very important to me to ensure that our residents continue to lead fulfilling lives doing things that they want to and enjoy. Our programme is varied from excursions out on the mini bus ensuring our residents are connected to their local community, hosting events here in the home, virtual events and themed days – no day is the same!

Life at Station Court Care Home

Home celebrates VE Day anniversary

Station Court Care home in Ashington marked the anniversary of VE Day in style by throwing a 1940s afternoon tea party to remember.  The home was decorated in red, white and blue and staff dressed up in their 1940s-inspired glad rags and enjoyed an afternoon with virtual entertainment and dancing to all the much loved war time classic songs.

Head chef Terry Cox whipped up a delicious selection of freshly-baked biscuits, sandwiches, cakes and pastries for the occasion, all washed down with pots of tea and a celebratory glass of fizz to mark the occasion.

Residents observed the national two minute silence and listened again to Churchill’s iconic speech and an address from the Queen.  They reminisced about their memories of VE Day and watched clips of the celebrations that took place outside Buckingham Palace and all across London.

10-years service for Activities Coordinator

An Activities Coordinator at Station Court Care Home in Ashington has received a prestigious 10 Year Service Award in celebration of working at Barchester Healthcare for 10 years.

Carly Chesney, started at Barchester in April 2011 and has worked with residents and their relatives to ensure that their needs have been met over the years.

Five Sisters Zoo

As part of Barchester’s Life Enrichment Programme, team members and residents at Station Court enjoyed an exciting virtual talk, generously hosted by Five Sisters Zoo.

The residents had the opportunity to explore and learn more about the animal life at the zoo and the important conservation, rescue and education work carried out at the grounds of the zoo.

Five Sisters Zoo was officially established in 2005 with just a small collection of rabbits, guinea pigs, goats, and pigs. Since then the zoo has grown into an exciting collection of over 160 different animal species from all around the world.

Back on the road!

We are all thrilled at Station Court now we are allowed to go on mini bus adventures again! Residents from our gentlemen club chose to go to the beach!  We had a fabulous day in the sunshine at the seaside having fish and chips (on the bus!), listening to the waves and watching the world go by.

A hoppy Easter at Station Court

Everyone had a jam packed day for Easter! We began our day with a eggcellent delivery from the Easter’ bunny’ of chocolate Easter eggs and handmade crosses made by the Holy Sepulchre Church knitting group, followed by a virtual church service, a delicious Easter roast, Easter crafts and drawing our bonnet competition. We then finished off with our eggstravaganza tea party!

Residents enter Easter cake competition

The ladies of Station Court love their baking club and have had a fabulous time working together to make and decorate their entry into Barchester’s annual Easter cake competition,  We think they have done an amazing job and after seeing their finished result, what better way to round the afternoon off but enjoying a slice on a glorious day in the homes garden. It was delicious!
