Activities at Strachan House Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Artists among us

We truly have some very talented people here at Strachan House! With an array of arts and crafts available, it never ceases to amaze us just how talented our residents are! Each person holds their own unique talents and there is never a one size fits all. This is why we host a variety of different classes using varying mediums, to suit each individual’s likes and abilities. From watercolour painting, to acrylics, scrapbooking to beading, weaving to knitting. We have recently been enjoying more abstract work, inspired by the likes of Picasso and Mondrian. The use of vivid colour brings forth emotions and memories, and we love to talk and discuss whilst getting creative. Residents recently tried their hand at painting their favourite animals, with beautiful results! We has some very proud artists in our midst.

Tommy Douglas, Veteran community support manager and David Boe National Chairman of Legion Scotland kindly visited Strachan for a cream tea and discussion with the residents to mark the occasion. We are very lucky here at Strachan House to have two very proud veterans amongst us. Both gents joined the armed services at the age of 18, having rich, varied experiences.

Cream Tea Delight

Our residents loved Craigie's Farm Shop and Cafe so much, we didn’t want anyone to miss out so we took some very keen ladies to enjoy yet another delicious cream tea! Some of the ladies reminisced about coming here with groups of friends and enjoying afternoons together surrounded my stunning views and good company. It was a pleasure to laugh around the table together, share stories and enjoy the lovely atmosphere. A wonderful afternoon was had by all!
