Activities at Strachan House Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Hannah Beale
Hello, I'm Hannah and I joined the Strachan House team in September 2024. I thoroughly enjoy being the Activities Coordinator, a role that delivers all-round support for our residents whilst organising an engaging, motivating and enjoyable activities programme.
I am lucky to spend quality time with residents and families, and use these opportunities to plan individualised events and outings. My professional background stems from seven years in planning corporate events and weddings, alongside social media marketing and recruitment.
In my free time, I enjoy exploring the Scottish countryside with my husband and dog after relocating from the south coast in 2024.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Strachan House Care Home
Music is Magic....
We were delighted to listen to our wonderful new resident Tom sing a favourite song of his ‘Only God Can Make a Tree’. At Strachan House we encourage our residents to have fun while rediscovering current and previous passions. We look forward to Tom’s next performance!
A visit from The Lord Provost
Strachan House held ‘the BIG lunch’ community event, where children and their carers could pick up a FREE delicious lunch on us during half-term.
As a wonderful surprise for our residents, The Right Honourable Lord Provost of Edinburgh came along to show support. Residents and guests were delighted to enjoy some wonderful food and laughter together.
‘We were thrilled to see so many young faces popping in to say ‘hello’ and spent a few lovely afternoons preparing packed lunches for all to enjoy.’ Strachan would also like to thank Morrison’s for generous donations to our event.
Virtual afternoon at the theatre
Residents across our services had a fantastic time enjoying the virtual screening of Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em. Frank Spencer’s comical misadventures had everyone laughing and it was wonderful to see so many happy faces.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and a special thanks to The Barn Theatre in the Cotswolds for bringing this stage adaptation of the beloved sitcom to our screens.
Cornish Seal Sanctuary
A big thank you to the Cornish Seal Sanctuary for the fantastic live virtual event today!
Residents across our services loved seeing the seals up close and learning about the incredible work the sanctuary does to protect them and other wildlife in Cornwall as well.
Everyone truly enjoyed the experience.
Artists among us
We truly have some very talented people here at Strachan House! With an array of arts and crafts available, it never ceases to amaze us just how talented our residents are! Each person holds their own unique talents and there is never a one size fits all. This is why we host a variety of different classes using varying mediums, to suit each individual’s likes and abilities. From watercolour painting, to acrylics, scrapbooking to beading, weaving to knitting. We have recently been enjoying more abstract work, inspired by the likes of Picasso and Mondrian. The use of vivid colour brings forth emotions and memories, and we love to talk and discuss whilst getting creative. Residents recently tried their hand at painting their favourite animals, with beautiful results! We has some very proud artists in our midst.
VJ day Honours
Last week was the 79th anniversary of Japans surrender, marking the end of WWII. Tommy Douglas, Veteran community support manager and David Boe National Chairman of Legion Scotland kindly visited Strachan for a cream tea and discussion with the residents to mark the occasion. We are very lucky here at Strachan House to have two very proud veterans amongst us. Both gents joined the armed services at the age of 18, having rich, varied experiences.
